Believe it or not, today is the 1 year anniversary of Bran Appetit!
I can’t believe a year has gone by – it doesn’t feel like it at all.
I have had so much fun keeping up with the blog. I started it to share recipes and ideas with family and ended up becoming a part of an amazing online community, making friends with people all over the country, and sharing a piece of this crazy foodie group :)
I’m so happy to have this past year documented on the blog. I think it’s amazing to be able to look back at this year and not only see what I ate that day, but what was going on in my life.
Thank you, thank you for all of you that read and comment. I truly appreciate every comment I get, every tip I receive, and every new idea you guys give me every day.
Thank you to Nick and my friends and family for putting up with me, my camera, and the time I’ve spent on the computer.
I have tried so many new things this year, and it’s all because of this.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
I can’t wait to see what this year brings to this little blog :) I hope to have even more amazing experiences and more fun!
To celebrate one year of blogging, I’m going to give away a package of some of my favorite things!
Humpday is over! Aren’t you happy? I’m ready for a weekend again :)
I was pretty much hungry all afternoon today. I didn’t have any snacks that I actually wanted, so I just guzzled water until we went home.
And we came home to a mess!
Maggie was not happy that we were not home with her today – she had flung litter all over the place and thrown her blanket + bed across the kennel. Of course, she was happy once we were home.
I cleaned up her pee while Nick took her outside and then Nick cleaned up the litter while I washed dishes and got started on dinner. At least we have a good system between the two of us!
Tonight’s dinner was something I had been thinking about all day.
While I was on the way home from my appointment yesterday, I stopped by one of our local health food stores, Annie Kay’s, to see what they had from the local bakeries.
The great thing about Tuesdays? Whatever baked goods they have leftover that day are free! They do that so they can get rid of what they got earlier in the week before the new shipment comes in. And it’s all local!
I grabbed a loaf of rosemary sourdough to try out – I really just wanted to see if their was as sour as mine :)
I decided to use the bread to make a strata for dinner.
Honestly, I decided I needed to figure out how to make a good strata after seeing them on Erin’s blog all the time – they always look so good!
So good, and so easy.
Tonight’s mix included:
rosemary sourdough
1/2 green pepper
1/2 red onion
2 scallions
1/2 cup roasted red peppers
1 pkg. cremini mushrooms
1 chicken sausage
1 can diced tomatoes
6 eggs
1/4 cup or so milk
1/2 cup cheese
salt, pepper
We had some leftover green beans on the side for a bit more green. And this sourdough was not as sour as mine, but the rosemary flavor was amazing – this smelled incredible when it came out of the oven.
Maggie has been crazy tonight, and messy. I washed her bed and blanket again tonight, and I just heard the dryer buzzer go off. Time to get them and get her ready for bed!
My lunch was good, but did nothing for my gurgling stomach.
I had the last of my Kashi pizza from the other night and some leftover broccoli. The pizza tasted good, but it wasn’t crispy after being microwaved :(
Since Nick was still hungry too, we headed over to Barnes & Noble to get a snack and look around.
I got a Reese cup cookie and a small fat free hot chocolate.
For some reason, this cookie sounded amazing today! I’ve never tried it before and figured today should be the day.
Back to work – here’s hoping all this sugar makes the afternoon fly by! :)
If you could make your own dream cookie, what would it have in it? and do you ever have totally random days where you are just hungry all. day. long?
I think this may be one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
Nick ordered this coffee siphon with his graduation money, and it is so neat!
It was like doing a science experiment in the kitchen this morning! You put the water in the bottom and the coffee grounds in the top. Then turn on the heat and the water will start moving into the top of the siphon, brewing the grounds.
Then you take it off the heat and the coffee then comes back into the bottom so you can serve it. It was fun watching it brew this morning :)
While Maggie was eating breakfast and Nick was practicing his evil scientist laugh, I made oatmeal.
That combo I made last week was so good, I had to have it again.
1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, pinch salt
1 apple, diced and microwaved with cinnamon for 1 minute
2 Tbsp sliced almonds
1 Tbsp craisins
1 Tbsp butterscotch chips
I think we may be serious coffee addicts – is it a bad thing that we have more coffee gadgets/appliances than anything else? :)
What’s the most fun/strangest kitchen appliance or gadget you’ve seen?
