How is it that I ended up making the turkey gravy and my grandmother’s ham gravy today, and I didn’t eat either one?
Also…I had never made turkey gravy before, so I’m not sure they should have let me :) But both of them turned out well!
We had an impressive spread today! And lots of family and friends, which is what I love.
Let’s see if I can remember it all:
deep fried turkey + gravy
ham + my Mammaw’s ham gravy (yum)
mashed potatoes
sweet potato/apricot/pecan bake
green beans with peppers
broccoli salad
deviled eggs
baked apples
stuffing
rolls
I had a little of everything, but did keep myself to only one plate! I knew dessert was coming and wanted to save some room ;)
And then.
My mom’s fudge pie.
One reason I love the holidays.
It actually turned out much runnier than normal, which was strange because the outside looked done! It was almost like a lava cake.
After we all ate, we sat around and watched some football and laughed and talked and spent time with family.
Around 6 tonight, we talked to my sister and her husband that are in Spain on Skype – that was nice to get to talk to them today since they missed out on Thanksgiving.
We all ended up having random leftovers tonight, but it was all good.
I heated up a few tiny pieces of ham, 1 roll, and had some salad for dinner.
And more pie ;)
My mom, sister and I are going shopping tomorrow morning, so I’ve got to get in bed soon! We won’t be going out at 5 am, but we always shop on Black Friday – I can’t wait!!!
I hope each and every one of you has a great day today, whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not. It’s still always good to remember all the blessings we have and be thankful for everything in our lives.
This morning has been great!
I got up and laid in bed with my mom for an hour, just talking about all kinds of stuff. We got up and ate breakfast while watching the parade.
It took me forever to decide what to have for breakfast today! I kept finding other things I wanted, but I tried to remember that we’re having a huge lunch today so I wanted something filling but not too heavy – I want to be hungry when lunchtime rolls around!
I made myself a bowl of ab & j oatbran, and it was perfect.
1/3 cup oatbran
1 cup water
pinch salt
1/2 banana
1 Tbsp almond butter
1/2 Tbsp or so strawberry jam
I had some water and split a mini pot of coffee with my dad, too.
Now we’re all showered and watching Tommy Boy :) One of my favorites – I know the whole movie by heart. It’s a little ridiculous.
I’ve got to dry my hair and then start helping in the kitchen.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, what are you thankful for today?
We made pretty good time today and really didn’t run into much traffic, thank goodness. I never know how the roads are going to be right before a holiday, but it wasn’t too bad.
Lunch today was good!
We had some pasta leftovers and some broccoli, and I didn’t want to just throw it away before we left. I just mixed it together, heated it up for a few minutes in the microwave, closed the container, put it in an insulated lunchbox, and put that inside a cooler!
It actually worked really well! We left around 11 this morning and when I ate this around 12:30, it was still warm.
The trip was pretty normal: lots of driving, lots of good music.
When we stopped to get Nick some lunch around 2:30, I had a banana and an then an Odwalla bar to hold me over until we got to the house.
We got to my parents’ house around 4:30, sorted through some old stuff in the attic (fun!) and helped get dinner ready.
My mom made this rotini dish that was awesome! It had whole wheat pasta, peppers, onions, mushrooms, lean ground beef, tomatoes…it was good. We also had some salad + bread on the side.
We just got back from church with my grandmother, and now we’re sitting in the den, watching some Food Network :) There’s nothing like being at home!
I think we’re going to go through a bunch of my stuff in the attic while we’re here –I may have some funny pictures later!
Yesterday afternoon was pretty busy at work, so I finished things up as fast as I could while I snacked on some Oikos, pom arils, and dark chocolate chips.
Last night, we ended up going out with a few friends to play pool, have some snacks + drinks, and listen to the Hokie radio show – it was so much fun! We got home around 10 (which is late for me!) and Nick and I went right to sleep.
At least we didn’t have to wake up to an alarm clock today! We’ve been having a nice morning at home.
We just moved my dresser back upstairs and I’m about to start packing so we can leave the house in an hour or two.
I didn’t have any pumpkin left for oatmeal, so I had eggs!
I took 2 slices of Nature’s Pride Whole Wheat bread, cut holes in them with a biscuit cutter and then cooked them, one at a time, with an egg cracked in the middle.
We had some pineapple that needed to be eaten, so we both had some of it with our breakfasts today.
And I also had a mini nutella sandwich with my bread rounds :)
Plus coffee!
I’ve still got to pack my entire bag, but once that’s done, we’re ready to hit the road!
