Pie Day and Birthday Plans

by admin on June 20, 2012

There are 3 great things happening this week.

1. Today is Pie Day! That’s right. Bloggers all over the place are going to be posting all about pies today. If you didn’t have breakfast yet…you might be in trouble.

2. The Avett Brothers are going to be playing on Conan this Thursday!!!! I will do my best to shove my old lady tendencies back for one night so I can stay up late enough to watch.

3. It’s my birthday week. Come Sunday, I’ll be charging into a new year, hopefully with that cookie cake up there.

My birthday cake of choice has always been a huge chocolate chip cookie cake. No regular cake, no layers of icing, no ice cream cakes. Cookie cake. That’s all I ask for. It’s the best when it’s still warm with a scoop of ice cream….and it makes a pretty rockin’ breakfast the day after your birthday, too.

But if I couldn’t have a cookie cake, my next choice would probably be some kind of homemade pie.

Before last spring, I had never made a pie. Never! At 28 years old, that made me sad.

So I finally made my first pie and pie crust. And now I’m hooked.

I was totally scared to make my first pie from scratch, but seriously – it’s one of the easiest things to do. It’s not a quick process, but it’s not hard.

Pie crust is so simple to mix by hand and even easier and faster if you have a food processor.

So, are you going to celebrate today?

Pick your filling. Make your crust. Fill it up. Bake or chill or freeze your pie. Share it with someone you love.

And……if you feel like making a chocolate chip cookie cake today, I’ll let you send it to me this weekend so I don’t have to make my own birthday cake. Deal?

My favorite pie recipes!

Yay! Happy Birthday week!!!

And so cool that the Avett Bro’s wil be on Conan. My friend is naming her baby Avett after them and I just thought that was the cutest thing.

And I totally agree, pie over cake any day!

Happy birthday early! It’s funny – I didn’t make my first pie until I was 28! And I love that 3 of your 5 favorite pie recipes involve strawberry rhubarb. That is my all-time fav pie flavor combo! :)

I LOVE the icing on cookie cakes. Does that still happen on homemade as opposed to the ones you used to get at the mall? Hope you have a fabulous birthday!
