Cherry Berry Smoothie

I think it’s time to come up with an official name for this weird time between winter and the start of spring.

In our house, it’s mostly known as the-weather-is-nice-but-I’m-stuck-inside-with-my-second-head-cold-in-two-weeks.

But this time of year is tricky for me when it comes to breakfast and snacks.

The sun is shining, the weather is nicer than it was in early January, but it’s still not exactly warm.

I wake up so excited to see the sun shining before 7 am or feel the sunrays coming in the windows in the middle of the afternoon, and all I can think of is a huge smoothie.

And then I make it and remember just how chilly it still is outside. And how most of our windows have tiny cracks in them since this house is old and no matter what our heat is set on in the house, I will always always always be freezing after the first sip of a smoothie.

I made my first smoothie of the year last week and loved every sip – even if I had to put on my sweatshirt and slippers to enjoy it.

At least I have one new smoothie to make again when spring officially hits.

Cherry Berry Smoothie

Makes: 1 smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup cherry juice
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 2 cups baby spinach

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth, adding ice and/or more liquid until it’s your perfect smoothie consistency.

My other favorite smoothies:

  1. This looks so good! Love cherries! I’m with you though, I would have to heavily suite up in order to drink one right now! Today was a tease with the weather being so warm. I think the colder air is about to come. I’ve bookmarked this to make when it’s warmer!

  2. Look yummy!! I wish we were having in-between-weather here in Chicago. Instead, we have a lovely snow storm :(

  3. Yum! I’ve never had a cherry smoothie before :)

  4. I just posted a cherry smoothie too! It has dates, frozen cherries, peaches, and bananas and is seriously so good I could barely stop eating!

  5. Wow….we are birds of a feather today. I too had a smoothie this morning, made with almond milk, frozen cherries from last summer (time to clear out the freezer) and a banana. And I too have a cold…. sorry we both have that to deal with. Thanks as always for the wonderful photos, the recipes and your inspiring posts. Have a great weekend. Feel better.

  6. definitely worth the slippers and sweatshirt :)

  7. I’ve been stuck on using the same recipe for a smoothie with spinach in it, I need to branch out and try this.

  8. I love adding cherry juice to smoothies! I used to all the time when my Plantar fasciitis acted up because of cherry juice’s anti-inflammatory properties:)
