Spiked Ginger Cider

by admin on November 21, 2011

I don’t know much about liquor.

I know that too much vodka is never a good thing.

I know that rum and cokes can go down super easy…also not always a good thing.

I know that, really, I don’t know much of anything about drinks or what to mix with what or what really makes a good drink. Except that Pinnacle whipped stuff is way too good in coke, orange soda, and hot chocolate. Yum.

This cider was made based on my love for Nick’s dad’s latest drink from one of our favorite restaurants, The Chop House in Harrisonburg.

His new thing? A 46 and Sprite.

Before he told me about this, I didn’t even know Maker’s 46 existed. But I’m glad I do now.

If you like regular Maker’s Mark, you’ll love their 46. It’s so smooth and has a deeper, richer flavor.

46 and some Sprite? Good.

46, brandy, apple cider, and ginger ale? Better.

If you’ve got plans to do a holiday drink for Thanksgiving, Christmas, a weekend holiday party….or just as a warm drink at the end of a cold, dark winter day, you should make this.

The ginger ale makes it just a bit fizzy, it’s sweet from the cider, and has the smooth flavor of the 46 and brandy.

Make it hot, make it cold – just make it, mmkay?

Spiked Ginger Cider

Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz. Maker’s 46
  • 4 oz. apple brandy
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups ginger ale

Directions:

For a warm drink: pour all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Ladle into mugs and serve warm.

For a cold drink: Pour 1 oz. of Maker’s 46 and 1 oz. of apple brandy into 4 mugs. Add 1/2 cup apple cider, 1/2 cup ginger ale, and a few ice cubes to each cup. Serve chilled.

I’d never thought about putting gingerale in a hot drink. One of our local restaurants does something similar that is amazing:

Well Mannered Robot
Whipper Snapper spirit whiskey, Averna Amaro, Velvet Falernum, agave, muddled apples, baked apple bitters, cinnamon sugar.
