Despite finally having a kitchen that can hold more than 2 people at a time and a house big enough to have a dinner party, I’m still not good at hosting parties and planning appetizers.
After 7 years in a smaller house that made it tough to have people over, dinner parties make me nervous.
I get anxious and stressed out and frustrated because I don’t have a good system down yet in this house. Figuring out what to make is always a challenge, I never think things are going to turn out, and I put way too much pressure on myself.
But one thing I know that can make any dinner party or get together flow is having a few appetizers ready for guests until the meal is ready.
And I don’t want appetizers that are going to take me just as long as the meal to make. I need quick. Not fussy. Easy to prep. Non-stressful.
I think figs are the answer!
Our fig bushes are going through a fall harvest, so they’re coming in by the pound again. We’ve already eaten pounds this summer, plus we made 15 jars of jam, so I’m using the fall harvest to really try the figs in cooking and baking.
I’ve had a few appetizers with dried figs, but never fresh. After having them on pizza, I know they go perfect with salty bacon, but I wanted something a little lighter. The light flavor of the figs goes so well with syrupy honey and briny feta, I knew these would be tasty little bites.
It doesn’t get much easier than this.

- 1 Tbsp honey

Such a beautiful idea! I love the idea of figs and feta.
So pretty! I love this :)
These look absolutely mouthwatering – I would give anything for a fig tree in my backyard! Do you know how many years they take to start producing fruit after being planted?
Aaand definitely had a dream that my Grandma got a fig tree orchard planted in her backyard last night! HA!
ha, too funny! I have NO idea how long it takes them to start producing, but I could find out. The people that owned our house before us were the ones that planted them but I’m not sure how long ago that was.
Some how I doubt you are NOT good at dinner parties.
Have you made fig newtons yet?
no, no newtons yet! maybe that should be next.
These appetizers are beautiful! And I love the flavors you chose to pair with the figs.
Feta has the ability to make absolutely anything better!
Oh gosh, some of my favorite flavors!
Gorgeous! I need a fig bush!
