Peanut Butter Cup Blended Mocha

I love coffee.

I’ve finally reached a point that, according to my Dad, means I drink “real coffee”, and not just those crazy frozen coffee-ccinos.

On any normal morning, you can find me with a cup (okay 2-3 cups) of coffee with just a touch of milk or cream. Nothing more, nothing less. Never sugar and no flavored creamers. Blech.

I want a few caramel-colored swirls in my cup, and that’s it.

If you can give me that, I’m happy.

But if I ever want or need an afternoon pick me up, I want those to be fun. Or “not real coffee”.

Things like Thin Mint Mochas. Snickers Smoothies with some coffee added to it.

Or this mini peanut butter cup blended mocha.

And do you see those coffee bean shaped ice cubes?  The people at Starbucks sent me a sweet little package with some of their Via samples, a special iced coffee blend (will be trying soon!) and this awesome ice cube tray.

Also, I think the marketers that work for grocery chains know my weaknesses.

Take these mini peanut butter cups, for example. They put these cute little bags of super tiny treats right at the counter where I have to stand in line, waiting to check out.

My choices – at least at our local store – are to check out the new candy options, read the latest tabloid magazine (Brangelina breaking up? No, getting married? Adopting George Clooney?), or witness some things that could be on People of Walmart.

Obviously, I try to keep my focus between the tabloids or the candy.

And this last week, the candy won.

Mini peanut butter cups. Cute.

Mini peanut butter cups blended with milk, coffee-bean shaped coffee ice cubes, cocoa powder, and vanilla? Cuter.

If you want to pass this off as your morning cup of coffee, I won’t say anything. But it’s especially delicious on a hot summer afternoon.

Peanut Butter Cup Blended Mocha

Makes: 1 serving

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp half and half
  • 4 coffee ice cubes (or 1/4 cup cold coffee)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 4 mini peanut butter cups, saving 1 for topping

Directions:

  1. Add milk, half and half, coffee cubes, vanilla, cocoa powder, and 3 of the mini peanut butter cups to a blender.
  2. Turn on and blend until the ice cubes and pb cups are broken up and blended and the milk is frothy.
  3. Pour into glass and top with the remaining peanut butter cup, crumbling on top of the coffee.

This post is in honor of Mikey and Jennifer Perillo for Peanut Butter Pie Friday. I didn’t have the time or ingredients to make an actual pie, but my thoughts are going out to Jennifer and her family today.

If you haven’t already, take a moment to tell people that you love them. Hug and kiss those who matter to you. Listen. Write a note. Send an email. Make a phone call. Bake a pie and give it to someone who matters to you.

Don’t ever think that you can love too much.
