Honduras, Our Second Home

I realized that I didn’t build up this trip very much this year.

To tell you the truth, it has completely snuck up on me. I still can’t believe that it’s been a year since we were there. It didn’t feel like it was time to go back, although I’m extremely excited about it!

This year is going to be a good trip, for a lot of reasons.

It’s my mom’s first time to come, which is amazing. We have quite a few people on the trip this year for the first time and many that are on their first ever mission trip, which is always fun.

Instead of re-writing the same information, I thought I would post links to my other Honduras posts for you to check out.

Our meet-up time Wednesday morning was at 1:30 am, so I just didn’t go to bed Tuesday night (and I actually put this post together on Tuesday night at 11:30 pm).  We had a 2 hour drive to DC to catch our flights, grab some coffee, and start a long and tiring morning of travel. But it’s all worth it. Our Honduran work team (who are now friends and extended family) will pick us up and be ready to swallow us in big hugs, warm welcomes, and the biggest smiles you’ve ever seen. I cannot wait.

For more basic info on why we go to Honduras and what we do, you can check out the posts I’ve done the past two years here:

Why Honduras?

Honduras

As for what we actually do on these trips, it’s a bit different every time! One of the main reasons we go is to offer in-person support to the clinic and orphanage that we support financially throughout the year. The main jobs we’ve helped complete over the past two summers have been construction (putting new roofs on buildings, other work around the orphanage) and holding basic medical care clinics in remote towns that have no other access to health care.

I do have a few recaps of our days from the past two trips:

Roof Work

Other work at Jovenes

My Boys

Why We Probably Won’t Ever See Another Soccer Game in Honduras

Clinic in Sabana Redonda

Clinic in Guinope

Jose, My Little Buddy and His Story

And I have another big thank you to extend after this past Christmas season.

Holly, my favorite Everythingtarian :) , and I held a holiday challenge to help raise money to support the orphanage we visit on these trips.

I am still amazed at this community and the friends I’ve made since I started blogging. This orphanage means so much to me and my family, and I was thrilled to be able to help them out in an even bigger way. To all of you the spread the word and donated in December, thank you – from the bottom of my heart.

To close this out and start our trip, I’m going to repost part of my post from last year.

For now, thank you for your thoughts and prayers and good vibes. We don’t take those for granted, and I truly appreciate every comment, email, and phone call we’ve received.

Thank you for those that sent in guest posts for while we’re gone – I’ve got some great ones lined up and know you’ll enjoy them.

Thank you for reading and wanting to know more about what we’re doing in Honduras. This is the most meaningful thing in my life (besides friends and family), and I’m so happy to be able to share it with you.

And a final thank you for those of you that give to a cause you believe in. Obviously, I would love if everyone gave to Jovenes to keep them up and running, but that may not be your dream – and that’s okay!

My one plea is that, IF you give, keep giving. Find a cause that you believe in and support it in any way that you can. Even five dollars a month is more than they would have if you didn’t give, and small gifts can still make a world of difference.

If you don’t give, consider it! There are so many groups and organizations that rely on it to keep going and even if you think your gift won’t matter, it will! It does. Every cent matters. If you can’t afford to contribute money, give your time – volunteer. Often times, having a person that is willing to work is even more useful than funding.

Here we go!
