If you’re anything like me, you love oatmeal.

I will admit that it’s a bit harder to want it on some super muggy summer mornings, but I eat oatmeal regularly throughout the year, even in the middle of July.

I love that you can add just about anything to oatmeal and it’s always good. Berries, apples, bananas. Peanut butter, almond butter, Nutella.

I don’t think I’ve ever found a way that I didn’t enjoy it!

And Bob’s Red Mill, one of my very favorite companies (and brands of oats!) has a contest going on right now called “Spar for the Spurtle”, the ultimate oatmeal throwdown.

The contest invites home cooks and professional chefs alike to submit videos demonstrating a unique recipe that makes use of Bob’s Red Mill Steel Cut Oats – the World’s Best Oats. From the entries, three finalists will be flown to Portland, Oregon to compete in a live cook-off, in which the winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Scotland, to represent Bob’s Red Mill in the 18th Annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship, $2,500 in cash, and several other prizes. The deadline to submit a video is July 30, 2011.

Pretty sweet, right?

While I’m working on finding a video camera so I can enter, the nice people at Bob’s Red Mill also offered to do a giveaway just for you guys!

The first 5 readers to contact me and let me know that you’ve submitted a video entry will win a free Bob’s Red Mill product!

So get cooking! I can’t wait to see your contest entries.

And make sure to contact me once you’ve entered your video so you can claim your prize.

Good luck!

What’s your favorite oatmeal combination?

My all time favorite right now is: oatmeal with fresh local peaches, blueberries, and almond butter.

  2. How cool! this is great for all us oatmeal lovers! Fave oatmeal combo….wow this is tough… I would say cinnamon, honey, pumpkin, milk, blubes, and almond butter. So addicting! Hahaha I eat oatmeal throughout the summer too! just cant get enough :)

  3. omg that trip sounds awesome! i hope you win. i love oatmeal, but not overnight oats…just can’t get on board with that one! have a great weekend

  4. What a fun contest! I’ve tried lots of their products, but never their oatmeal. I will get on that. The oatmeal banana split looks delicious. I was actually feeling VERY yucky last night. I ended up having oatmeal for dinner and woke up feeling fantastic….I believe it must have been the oatmeal ;)

  5. What a fun contest! I never think to do anything fun with oatmeal, though I love it. I usually just do the bananas and brown sugar. When I have it on hand, I like a splash of almond milk too.

  6. I have not submitted a video, but I have to say that the best oatmeal I’ve ever made was a caramelized banana fig oatmeal. It was soooo good. Like a dessert, really. :)

  7. OH MY GOSH. I’m so psyched about this contest – I do a brownie batter oatmeal breakfast that uses several bob’s products – it’s one of my favorites! Can’t wait to submit :D Good luck with your own oatmeal video!

  8. i love my oats with protien powder, chopped apple, almond butter, and tons of cinnamon

  9. The contest sounds like a wonderful opportunity for three very lucky people. I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries. I hope you have a great day. Blessings…Mary

  10. I try to eat oatmeal as much as possible for all the health benefits. I am hoping the benefits include oatmeal cookies too!

  11. I had a breakfast emergency this morning in that I broke the blender and had to whip up some oats! I used to eat them everyday but have gotten out of the habit. I had two combos that were my favs…one was tropical oats with pina colada protein powder, kiwi’s (which I’m now allergic to), and banana chips…so refreshing in the am! The other combo that I loved was s’mores oats with fluff, graham crackers, and chocolate chips. Too bad I can’t have either of these anymore because of my bladder, but they are so tasty!

  12. I’m so entering this contest! Portland is about 5 minutes from my house (just a hop over the bridge) so it’s meant to be right? I love banana, cocoa and peanut butter in my oats. It’s a winning combo!

  13. ahhhh i need to do this. will let you know if i find time to enter…
