Baking Ahead

So…I’m leaving for Atlanta today.

Are you going to be at BlogHer Food? I’m so excited I can barely stand it!

Not only does this trip start with a super fun road trip with Mrs. Doughmesstic herself, but this will also be my first EVER BlogHer conference. I’ve heard they are crazy and overwhelming, and I can’t wait ; )

This also means I will not be home. For 4 days.

And it will be the longest that Nick and I have been apart since we got married almost 7 years ago.

Yes, we are that couple. We do almost everything together: we ride together to work every day, eat lunch together every day, and hang out all day at home together.

This trip is going to be so insane and fun, but I’m going to miss him like crazy.

To make me feel better about leaving, and to make sure he doesn’t starve, I’ve baked ahead for him.

The house is now stocked with:

3.5 dozen cookies. I’m betting these will last until Friday (at the latest).

2 loaves of bread.

A new coffee cake recipe that turned out great!

Salad fixins are in the fridge.

The freezer is stocked with veggies, pizza dough, a frozen pizza, and chicken.

There are chicken thighs in the fridge, plus eggs, applesauce, yogurt, juice, and milk.

That should get him through until Sunday, right?

Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this.

  1. You are not alone! I’m always making sure there is food arund for my boyfriend when I go out of town. Heck, I make him 3 meals a day when I am home!

  2. Have SO much fun! I’m totally jealous :) And I do the same thing when I leave Josh! Baked goods and usually a pasta bake or pulled pork or something to keep him going. Hope you have a great time

  3. Oh man, I am actually going to fitbloggin (and speaking!) this weekend. I had no idea blogher food was the same weekend!

  4. Have a great time!!!

  5. I remember it feeling so jarring when I left my husband to go away for a conference for the first time! We always have a well-stocked fridge, and he is a great cook, so I was shocked when I came home to find he ended up eating Chinese every night (by evidence in the trash bin)! He said it just wasn’t the same to cook only for himself. The next time, I made something in the crockpot before leaving to help him through the week, but I think I need to actually design him a meal menu…that is not order by number! You are not alone!

  6. I feel your pain. I hate leaving my husband, too. I love that you’ve got all that food made for him. I do the same thing, and get mad when he goes out to eat every night. I guess I should just be happy he’s eating. :)

  7. Andy and I are THAT couple too so I totally get it. When he left for a week recently, I missed him so much! Keeping busy helped but I was so happy when he came back home finally! I think you are cute! If I was the one going away, I’m sure I’d do the same thing.

  8. Haha, I’m the same way. I always bake extras for my fiance to munch on while I’m gone. For main meals he subsides on Subway and take out. I’d cook for him too but chances are he wouldn’t eat it because he doesn’t even want to heat it up!

  9. Awwe, that’s so cute. :) I’m pretty sure Michael and I will be that kind of couple once we’re married. We’ve been doing the lond distance thing now and are GLUED to each other when we’re actually together. Not just because we’ve missed each other so much, but it’s enjoyable to do things together. So it’s great you and Nick are like that. :)

  10. I totally feel like I have to take care of my husband when I’m going to be gone–you’re definitely not alone. Have a fantastic time this weekend–I can’t wait to hear about it!

  11. You are such a good wife! :) And I totally know how you feel. I had never been apart from my husband for more than two days before I went on my trip in April. I made sure the fridge and freezer were stocked, and I wrote out a meal plan for him. He sort of followed it… :)

Have a fabulous time at BlogHer Food! Can’t wait to hear all about it!!!

  12. Crazily I’m in Atlanta and I’m not going to BlogHer or the Food & Wine festival. So sad! Looks like it’s warming up, but this week has been chilly so far. Beautiful weather ahead!

  13. THat is so cute that you do all that for Nick! I know he loves and apprecites it. You guys make such a cute couple. Have a great weekend! I love you,
    Mom

  14. Oh, Brandi, you are awesome! Nick is one lucky guy.

Have fun at BlogHer Food! :-D

  15. How exciting! I wish I was going but I can’t this year. :( Have fun girl!

  16. You are like the best wife ever! I need you in my life. I would love to share some of those dozens of yummy cookies you left ;)

Oh and btw, I think it is really cute that you and NIck have never been apart. Just goes to show how perfect you two are together!

  17. oh you are so sweet! looks like the perfect baked goodies!

  18. Oh how I wish I was going! But with having to take my medical boards on monday…there was just no way. I know you’re going to have a blast though!

And if I had a husband…I would totally do this. So don’t worry. You’re totally normal.

  19. JEALOUS!! I so wanted to go, but my vaction won’t allow for it this year to take an extra day off, too many others. My hubby and I are “that” couple too…been married just over a year, together for 3, and hardly ever apart. I would probably do the same thing if I were leaving for a few days! Have fun!! Report back!!

  20. hehe, what an awesome wife nick has :) have fun at blogher food, maybe someday i can make it to one of those!!
