Okay friends. I need help.
I’m in a bit of a cooking slump when it comes to our meals during the week. I don’t really want to make a grocery list, I have no ideas what meals I want to make next week (or the next week or the next), and I don’t feel like looking stuff up. Do ever go through times when you just don’t want to have to do this? I can’t be the only one.
This is also when I really miss having cable. I don’t have the option to flip on Food Network and let Giada or Ina decide my weekly meals for me. Yes, I could look recipes up online, but sometimes you just need the process to be a bit more mindless, you know?
Right now, I’m “working” on putting my grocery list together, but I just have NO inspiration whatsoever!
I need help.
Clearly. And not just because grocery-list-making is what I do every Friday night.
What have you made lately and loved?
What’s your new favorite go-to meal/recipe?
Is there something I’m totally missing out on?
Also – I have a few chicken sausages in the fridge and 1 entire head of cabbage, so if you have any suggestions for those, you’ll get bonus points.
Why I bought a head of cabbage with no recipe in mind? I cannot answer that.
Here’s hoping your Friday night is more exciting than mine ; ) But I do hope you’re around so I can get my grocery list made!

I made a lentil rice casserole yesterday and I’m making sweet potato quesadillas tomorrow. Oh and I made my rice cooker jambalya recently too.
ooh, thanks cynthia!
For the chicken sausages and cabbage, make cabbage rolls!

thank you!!
I’ve been in such a rut, too. Most meals are roasted vegetables(or microwaved) with fried eggs. At least this is making me really good at frying eggs.
This would be my favorite recipe lately. I wish I had the energy to make it again soon.

That made it sound like it’s difficult to make. It’s not. I’m just lazy/buried in finals and anything not microwavable is “difficult”.
ha :) I hear ya! And we’ve been eating a lot of eggs lately for the same reason.
I’m so going through that right now and have been for a really long time. I haven’t made any real meals in as long as I can remember.
Hope you get some good suggestions!
thanks kacy :) and please let me know if you’re seriously coming thru bburg!
I made this recipe (which uses sausage and cabbage) last week and loved it! http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/sausage-with-cabbage-corn-saut-10000001940195/
I also made some great black bean, corn and zucchini enchiladas (via my recipes.com) this week – also delish! :)
thanks courtney!
If you go pick up a box of frozen pierogi you could throw together this Pierogi, Chicken Sausage and Cabbage Skillet? I made it a few weeks back and enjoyed it!

I definitely go through slumps like this. You are most definitely not the only one!!!
Here are some great meals I’ve made lately….
Tempeh Sloppy Joes, Strawberry Wheatberry Salad (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/wheat-berries-with-strawberries-and-goat-cheese-recipe/index.html), Grilled Teriyaki Shrimp over Coconut Rice.
thanks Lauren! that wheatberry salad looks great!
I’m in love with cheesy risotto right now. It’s good with all types of vegetables and grilled chicken or pork.
I remember seeing that risotto on your blog :)
UGH, I hate getting stuck in meal/food ruts. I’m actually just getting over a rut myself. Some good eats as of late are…
Creamy Vegan Avocado Pasta http://ohsheglows.com/2011/01/31/15-minute-creamy-avocado-pasta/
Grilled Cheese Jalepeno Popper Sandwich: http://www.beckybakes.net/2011/04/13/jalapeno-popper-grilled-cheese-sandwich/
Chicken Chickpea Chili: http://teenagetaste.wordpress.com/2011/03/15/chicken-and-chickpea-chili/
Hope this helps! :-)
thanks! those look great!
That definitely happens to me. This past week I only cooked twice! All other meals were either leftovers or eaten out.
Here’s a recipe for a chicken sausage casserole: http://avoraciousappetite.wordpress.com/2011/02/19/quick-easy-chicken-sausage-casserole/. It’s totally adaptable to fit whatever you have on hand.
Good luck with the list!
OOOO have you tried Heidi’s white bean and cabbage dish? http://steamykitchen.com/14838-white-beans-and-cabbage.html
Shockingly super delicious.
