flip that frown

today started off rocky for me. i woke up, happy to not have the alarm blaring in my ears, and saw that it was going to be a beautiful day.

but then my pancakes were weird.

the berry sauce didn’t turn out right.

and everything was irritating me. ever.y.thing.

I’m still in a bit of a funk, but the day is starting to turn around.

instead of wallowing inside, I went to the farmer’s market and got groceries. came home, put stuff away, and weeded the blueberry bushes. helped nick move a tree he just cut down. measured the space for our raised beds so he could till it up and we could get building.

I’ve got a new bread trial rising in the microwave.

my first ever homemade pie crust chilling in the fridge for dessert tonight.

and some great farmer’s market loot from today.

finally – strawberries! I’ve been waiting for these since last year. found some local strawberries (not cheap, but worth every penny since they were picked this morning), rhubarb, apples, and chives.

any guesses what the dessert will be?

let’s hope this day just keeps getting better.

  2. Will you give me a piece if I guess right? I am thinking strawberry rhubarb pie…one of my favorite kinds. :)

  3. My grandmother use to make the best rhubarb pie.
I really wish you would start that online bakery!

  4. I think it’s funny that you make so many elaborate recipes, but this is the first time you’ve made pie crust. You’ll never go back to the store bought stuff now. I hope it turns out well.

    • I think it’s funny that you think I make elaborate recipes! :)

I’m pretty proud of my first pie – it definitely isn’t perfect, but it is tasty!

  5. Pancakes can be funny. It takes a lot for me to think they’re JUST right! Hooray for the farmers market. I meant to make it to ours today, but got too busy :( I rhubarb and strawberry pie or crisp of some sort? Hope the rest of your weekend is wonderful :)

  6. Sounds cheesy but…way to turn that frown upside down! :P Seriously, though, trips to the farmer’s market and pies can’t help but make you happy. can’t wait to see that pie!

  7. Something must have been in the air because I had the exact same kind of day. Glad to have a bright and new shining day before me today :D

  11. Sorry you you were in a funk! Hopefully you continue to rise out of it:)

Love that you have three cartons of eggs in the fridge btw!

    • :) i was wondering if anyone would say anything about that! i had just gone shopping, and one of them only has 1 egg left in it.

  12. It’s a funk-y time of year…in the midwest, we’ve had quite a dreary spring so far. A bit of sunshine (even just a bit) can make a world of change. Rhubarb always reminds me of my grandma, too.

  13. Yay you’re making strawberry rhubarb pie!

  14. Oh man I hate when a weekend day turns into a day full of irritations. Great job turning it around though! Also? I love that you have three cartons of eggs in your fridge. We are the same way!
