Scratch Made: Dress Your Salad

Do you ever make your own salad dressings?

If you don’t, you should try it. They’re incredibly easy to make and so delicious that you may just start ignoring all those bottles in your refrigerator door.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Basic Vinaigrette

  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 red wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp dijon mustard
  • pinch of salt
  • fresh ground pepper

  1. I usually don’t make my own dressings but do like oil & vinegar, oil & lemon and good seasons mix.

  2. I always do, but I always stick to balsamic. I should branch out! Especially the Italian looks good:)

  3. I don’t really like salad dressings, so I always make my own. I love trying different ones so I will definitely try yours!

  4. Yum. I love making my own dressing. Usually I’ll make some kind of yogurt sauce with lemon, salt, and pepper. It’s so simple and delicious. I like yours too!

  5. I made all of the salad dressings from scratch when I worked as a chef this past summer–my favorite was lemon poppyseed dressing. I am kind of too lazy to make my own at home though–but thanks for the good recipes!

  6. My favorite dressing right now is a basic vinaigrette made with Trader Joe’s Orange Muscat Champagne vinegar.

  7. Love these! I prefer making my own dressings, too – I get bored if I have a full bottle of the same kind :P That and, if it’s not good….you’re stuck with the whole thing!
My favorite was probably a maple-fig dressing I made from Veganomicon.

  8. We love making our own dressings vs. the bottled versions! My favorite dressing “recipe” is so easy: white balsamic vinegar (this stuff rocks!), olive oil, salt & pepper :) Love your dressing ideas too – yum!

  9. Yes, I definitely usually eat home-made dressing…so much better!

  10. I make all of my own dressings. It just tastes so much better and there is hardly any effort in it.

  11. Jason LOVES a raspberry vinaigrette… I may have to make this for him… :D

I love lemon + olive oil… I should get more creative, but I always go back to lemon…

  12. Ooh that raspberry vinaigrette sounds really good. Over the summer I was obsessed with a homemade lemon basil dressing. I think I made it every time we came home from the farmers market with lots of salad veggies.

  13. I love to make my own viniagrettes. Let me put this bug in your ear: on your next TJ visit pick up their Orange Muscat Champagne Vinegar for a treat. Oh my pie! So wonderful.
