Behind the Blog: Emily

Happy Friday everyone!

Today’s Behind the Blog comes from a girl I met in San Francisco at the Foodbuzz Festival – she’s so nice and friendly, and is really funny. I hope you get the chance to meet her, too!

Without further adieu, welcome Emily!

1. What’s your name and blog address?

Emily Wax, and I blog at Eating Chalk. http://eatingchalk.com

2. How long have you been blogging?

I recently changed my blog name, but I started Eatventures in July 2009. Before that I also occasionally wrote at the 1st Eating Chalk, a blog about the ways in which my crazy teaching job was affecting my life.

3. What do you love/hate about blogging?

I love the community that has been built in the healthy living world. I especially love all the new foods – Greek yogurt, okra – that I’ve tried and loved because of reading about them on other blogs. There’s nothing I hate about blogging, but I do get frustrated about how technologically challenged I am. I just joined Twitter (@EmilyWax) and I’m sort of a disaster.

4. What is your favorite color?

Aqua or lavender.

5. Favorite movie?

Knocked Up, Super Troopers, or High Strung.

6. Favorite book?

Everything by Augusten Burroughs; he’s lucky he’s gay or I would probably try to have his babies!

7. Favorite food?

Can I choose five? Jalapeño cheddar nachos, Pad See Eiw, baby carrots, Thai young coconuts, and popcorn.

8. Chocolate or vanilla?

Chocolate…usually with cookie dough chunks.

9. Favorite tv show NOW and when you were growing up?

My favorite shows now are Bones, House, and Modern Family. Growing up I loved Hey Dude, GUTS, and The Secret World of Alex Mack. Also, my husband and I recently discovered Buffy the Vampire Slayer and spent the last six months watching all five seasons!

10. Do you like playing sports? Watching sports?

I am sort of a spaz, but I love to run. We don’t have cable, but I used to like watching gymnastics.

11. Are you a coffee or a tea person? Or neither?

A diet soda person!

12. Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

I have six piercings and two tattoos. I have 3 piercings in my left ear and 2 in my right, as well as a belly button ring I’ve had since I was 15. I got my first tattoo – a small star on my hip – when I was 17, and I got my second tattoo – a small bow on my lower back (i.e. a tramp stamp) – to celebrate completing my first half marathon.

13. Do you have any special talents?

I would say my talent is managing to be so amazingly talentless!

14. If you could go anywhere in the world TOMORROW where would you go?

Italy. Except all the women who are treating Eat, Pray, Love like the Bible will probably be there, can I go next year?

15. Last thing you ate?

A Breyers Lite cookie dough ice cream sandwich. ….for breakfast!

16. When you were young what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be an actress. I also wanted to have red hair, so basically I watched too much Annie.

17. What was your favorite subject in school?

English.

18. What games did you play when you were younger?

At my school we were all about Congo Ball, basically stick-ball but with tape balls that the art teacher, Mr. Congelton, made.

19. Favorite restaurant?

Serendipity3 in New York City. They have a sandwich with apples, brie, thousand island dressing, and raisin bread that is the best thing I’ve ever eaten.

20. Favorite store?

For food, Trader Joes or Whole Foods; for everything else, Urban Outfitters or J.Crew.

21. Favorite animal?

The duckbilled platypus. But we also already have our future pets picked out and named – A French Bulldog named Sedrick, a Dachshund named Webster, and two pigs named Sir Francis Bacon and General Sow.

22. Favorite thing to cook/make?

Dessert – ‘Smores Pie; regular food – skillets with tons of veggies.

23. Most embarrassing guilty pleasure?

Watching Make It or Break it; as I’ve said on my blog “successful 25-year olds do not watch a show about teenage gymnasts!” But I can’t turn it off!

24. Do you have any nicknames?

Most people in my life call me by my last name, Wax. And my husband calls me Mouse.

25. List one thing the “blog world” doesn’t know about you but should!

I actually have a wicked sense of humor. My IRL friends are always surprised by how un-laughable my blog is, because in real life I’m kind of a riot. My humor is more situational though, and almost always R-rated.
