Why Honduras?

Good evening / morning!

Our flight left from DC at 6 am, so I’m probably in the air on my way to Honduras for my third trip in the past 6 years.

If you’re a new reader (hi!), you may be wondering why we’re going to Honduras or why we keep going back.

Last year was my first time to go and have the blog to document parts of our trip, so I’ve put together a little recap post to explain things.

This year, the trip will be a little different.

Our group is a mix of new people and many haven’t been to Honduras before. I hope Nick and I and his parents can show them the Honduras that we love and plant that seed in their hearts, as well.

We’re still unsure of everything we’ll be doing this week, but I’m sure we’ll be busy every day.

We will be putting a new roof on one of the dorm buildings at Jovenes, so I will get to see the boys and I am ecstatic – literally, cannot wait. I’ve been dreaming of those boys again for the past few weeks and can’t wait to see their faces.

We’ll also be doing medical work on this trip, including fitting people for glasses, providing general medical care, and anything else we’re able to do.

We have two cameras with us, and I’m sure I’ll come home with more pictures than I can handle so be prepared for trip recaps once we’re back.

For now, thank you for your thoughts and prayers and good vibes. We don’t take those for granted, and I truly appreciate every comment, email, and phone call we’ve received.

Thank you for those that sent in guest posts for while we’re gone – I’ve got some great ones lined up and know you’ll enjoy them.

Thank you for reading and wanting to know more about what we’re doing in Honduras. This is the most meaningful thing in my life (besides friends and family), and I’m so happy to be able to share it with you.

And a final thank you for those of you that give to a cause you believe in. Obviously, I would love if everyone gave to Jovenes to keep them up and running, but that may not be your dream – and that’s okay!

My one plea is that, IF you give, keep giving. Find a cause that you believe in and support it in any way that you can. Even five dollars a month is more than they would have if you didn’t give, and small gifts can still make a world of difference.

If you don’t give, consider it! There are so many groups and organizations that rely on it to keep going and even if you think your gift won’t matter, it will! It does. Every cent matters. If you can’t afford to contribute money, give your time – volunteer. Often times, having a person that is willing to work is even more useful than funding.

If you are interested in learning more about Jovenes and possibly giving to them, you can check out their website here. It has information about the orphanage, the work they are doing, and options to give online or receive more information in the mail.

Here we go! We miss you already Dad :)

Honduras. You seem like such a caring person…good luck and enjoy!

  12. I just reread your Honduras recaps from last year and felt so inspired and fortunate to have had the childhood I had. As much as I whined as a kid for not getting the newest toy or the coolest pair of jeans, I had food, a roof over my head, family/friends who loved me, etc. Seeing your pictures and reading about your adventure made me stop and think about all the blessings in my own life. You are such an inspiration and I admire you and your husband’s willingness to spend time helping those less fortunate than ourselves. Have a wonderful trip :) And I’ll be checking back constantly for updates!

  13. You are truly an inspiration!! Have a wonderful time and be safe. My prayers are with you.

  20. Hi, after reading about your amazing and very touching experience in Honduras I feel even more led in my heart for my family to get involved. We have never been on a mission trip but our two daughters age 14,19 are always talking about serving for others. I would like more info. if you see that our family could go to help.

    Blessings :)
