Zumba Newbie + Call for Guest Posts

Tonight could possibly be a new adventure.

As of right now, I have plans to try Zumba for the first time.

A former WW coworker and friend is teaching Zumba now (on top of her other 500 jobs), and told me she does a Tuesday evening class just a few minutes from me.

So…unless something crazy changes once we get home (or I chicken out!), I’ll be trying to get my groove on for an hour later tonight.

Fact: I used to cheer in middle/high school and am fine learning and doing choreographed dancing, but ask me just to bust a move or look okay dancing with other people?

Not going to happen. I can dance like Carlton from Fresh Prince

or Elaine from Seinfeld

and that may be the best you get from me.

This should be interesting.

My trip is totally sneaking up on me!

Nick and I leave for Honduras again in 2 weeks, so I need some guest posts to put up while we’re gone. The hotel we stay in does have internet, but it’s never guaranteed to work and we’ll be busy all week working, so there’s a good chance I won’t be able to blog at all until we get home.

Want to post here for me? Send me your guest post to branappetit [at] gmail and I’ll get it scheduled.

It can be anything – a fun recipe, healthy living tips/ideas, fitness tips, your story, etc.

Have you tried Zumba? Love it, hate it?

  1. I really want to try Zumba but I’m scared! Let us know how it goes!

  2. I can’t believe your trip is so soon. I definitely have an idea for a post for you and I’ll send it later this week.

  3. Have fun trying zumba tonight… :)

My friends and I used to go out and break out the Carlton or Elaine (or cabbage patch doll or whatever else you can think of) purely for the reaction alone. Priceless…

  4. Zumba is so much fun! You will love it!

  5. I have never tried a zumba class but everyone says its so much fun! can’t wait to see how you like it!!

  6. Hi Brandi,

I will only do Zumba by myself and in the privacy of my own home.

Now, If I looked like this when I did it, I would do it in the street!

(I made your banana bread with Nutella)
    (OMG)(amazing)(OMG)

    • I’m glad you liked the bread! It’s pretty amazing with that nutella in the middle. I need to make it again. There’s a reason to buy bananas again!

  7. Will def get you a post! Prolly end of next week. About honeymoon food most likely!

  8. Zumba terrifies me! I was a cheerleader in high school too and I was so lacking in rhythm that I was finally told to *patomime* clapping; I couldn’t make the noise because I was so off beat!

  9. I love Zumba! I think you will have a blast even if you think that you are a terrible dancer. The class is designed for all levels and focuses on having fun no matter what your ability. Let us know how it goes, good luck!

  10. I just tried zumba for the very first time last night! I wasn’t all the pro (my coordination and hip swaying could reeeeally use some work) but it wasn’t too too hard to pick up, I just keep trying to follow the feet of the women in front of me who really looked like they knew what they were doing. Overall it was fun though! The advice from the lady next to me was just keep smiling and enjoy it. My advice? Just jump around and shake the bootay! It’s fun even if you’re more carlton than anything else.

  11. I bet I can whip up a little guest post for you… :)

  12. If I can think up a guest post, I will send you one ASAP!

And good luck with Zumba, I tried it once and LOVED it! And I’m a very introverted dancer/performer as well. If that makes any sense lol…

  13. I love zumba! I used to dance and choreography comes pretty naturally to me – but I leave the class dripping with sweat each time. It’s such a great – and most importantly, fun – workout. And at least it switches up my normal running cardio routine once during the week. Have fun! And if you fall out of step, just shake it! Or break out the Elaine, haha.

  14. hahaha Elaine.. omg i love seinfeld <3

im sure u will love zumba. im not sure ive heard anyone come back from a class and hate it. so fingers crossed! <3

  15. I tried Zumba at my first gym and really wasn’t a fan. The instructor yelling “ZUMBA!!!” every few minutes drove me up the wall..

  16. I have a zumba DVD that I really enjoy…I’ve never done it with others though! Let us know how you like it!

I hope you have a wonderful time in Honduras!

  17. I am obsessed with zumba. I’m on a zumba hiatus since I’m home from college, but as soon as I get back you know I’ll be shakin’ it again ;)

  18. I’ve never done a guest post before, but I’d like to! I will do what I can, but it might be this weekend before I can get it together. I’d like to to a post about the CSA share we got this summer and how it has changed my cooking & meal planning habits.

  19. I LOVE Zumba and you will love it too. DOn’t worry, I am no dancer and I probably still look ridiculous but it gets easier every time. You really don’t need to be skilled in latin dancing, just shake your booty and have a great time!

  20. I’ve never written a guest post before, but I’m willing to try!

  21. You’re going to love Zumba! Can’t wait to hear what you think :)

  22. girl, i wanna go dancing with you! i like “bad” dancers!

  23. So I dearly hope you tried/enjoyed zumba! It is one of my favorite workouts. You do have to have a good instructor but I found it so close to rocking out to tunes in your room, and it is a good day when that can be a workout ;)

  24. i have the zumba dvds to do at home because i neither have the time or the guts to go to a class :) it’s a ton of fun and i wish that i did it more often, even if you get lost, just keep moving!

  25. Love Zumba!!

  26. I absolutely love Zumba! I just found your blog and love it! You have a new follower!

    xo

  27. i’ve only gone to Zumba once, and I went to a learning workshop, so it was really nice, it was slower and they broke it down a lot more. 3 hours though, and i burnt over 1200 calories, it was insane. But so much fun, i love it. I went alone so i didn’t know anyone there so that was a little uncomfortable, but most of the people were pretty friendly.
so hopefully you tried it and LOVED it, its such a great workout and doesn’t really feel like one.

    ok i’m done babbling lol

  28. Hi, I would love to do a guest post, if you have got any requests for content! As for Zumba, I LOVE IT. I am a dancer, so I might be biased, but I took a few classes when I was back in the States over Christmas and I loved it so much that I am going to try to get certified to teach it when I get back. That being said, it can REALLY differ between instructors… worth going to a couple of different classes to see whose style you like better!

  29. Hooray! Y’all are going to do so much good! :D If you want a guest post, just let me know!
