Slow Going and Fried Food

Is today dragging on for anyone else?

I looked at the clock this morning, thinking it was around 10 am, and it was only 8:45! I have a feeling today is going to be long day.

And since my time perception is off today, that might explain why I was so hungry for lunch!

I’m finally finishing off the beef and bulgur dish today. It’s delicious, but I’m happy that today’s my last day to have it for lunch ;) That plus some local zucchini, squash, and tomato underneath makes for a colorful + filling meal.

Deep Fried

I don’t eat fried foods very often, but I have been known to enjoy good onion rings and oreos on occasion.

But this latest deep fried food totally shocked me.

Deep Fried Deviled Eggs.

Seriously?

I love deviled eggs, but I don’t think I could ever eat one that’s been deep fried. That just seems so strange to me!

What’s the craziest deep fried food you’ve seen? Or the craziest one you’ve actually tried?

I know they have a ton at food fairs and festivals now: candy bars, cookies, coke!, all kinds of things!

  1. I’m still weirded out by the whole deep-fried candy bars you see at fairs and such. I mean… really?

  2. In college one day they set up a deep frier in the cafeteria and offered to fry anything. Folks brought over Oreos, candy bars, hot dogs, other types of meat, and vegetables. The family I lived with in Spain also had a deep frier in the kitchen. I haven’t eaten fried food in 3 years because of that frier!

  3. Not a big fan of fried foods either, but I love me some fried pickles!!! YUM!

  4. Whoa! I would probably have to try the deep fried deviled egg just to try it… I once saw someone making deep fried butter on television (I can’t for the life of me remember the show). But really?!?! How does that even make sense!?

  5. I think the craziest thing I’ve ever had is fried pickles. On my life to-do list though is fried coke (I think they make a batter with the flavor syrup?), which sounds socks rocking!

  6. I can’t eat deep fried foods with my stomach but the craziest thing I saw was a deep fried twinkie. Twinkies aren’t my thing to begin with so deep frying it just made it nasty in my book.

  7. Wait….. what…. they fry coke?
I think the only fried foods I could eat are pomme frites belgian fries and falafels :P Maybe tempura too.

  8. our local fair has deep fried donut-chicken sandwiches. 2 donuts sandwiching a fried chicken breast and then fried again. Absolutely horrid!

I love fried shrimp and zucchini. I always get them at fairs. Only about once a year though!

Onion rings are a more common occurence.

  9. If it can be deep-fried, the Southern branch of my family has probably done it. Candy bars? Check. Cheese? Yep. The most bizarre one to date: a twinkie slathered in peanut butter then placed in a hoagie roll, bacon and grape jelly added, Elvis-style, and then all fried up together. My uncle apparently scoffs in the face of cardiovascular disease.

  10. The MN state fair has some crazy things. This year they are having chicken fried bacon. I love fried food (unfortunately)! Thankfully the state fair is only once a year…

  11. I’ve never eaten anything crazy deep fried. Seriously, I have only seen deep fried twinkies once and that was it!

  12. When my boyfriend and i were making homemade sushi one night, we decided to throw a roll into the tempura oil. Deep fried sushi!! It was, um, interesting? I still maintain that the wine made me have the idea haha.

  13. I’d have to agree with you..fried candy bars, ice cream (which I heard was freakin *delicious*, and cookies are taking unhealthy to the next level. I’ve also seen fried hamburgers and hot dogs…

  14. Fried pickle and fried oreo are the crazy ones I’ve tried!!

  15. I think the weirdest I’ve seen is deep fried oreos or chocolate bananas….but friend pickles freak me out.

  16. Yeah deep fried mars bars are pretty popular in fish and chip shops in northern engand. Nasty piece of heart attack if you ask me! Mars bars are a type of candy bar – completely delicious pre-deep frying!

  17. i haven’t had too many of the crazy deep fried foods but i’ve always been wanting to dry a candy bar – especially the mounds one.

  18. I have to admit I am a fan of fried oreos, but fried twinkies?! wouldn’t they soak up the grease in the fryer? ew!
