Behind the Blog: Amy

Need a little pickup this Friday afternoon?

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the latest Behind the Blog.

1. What’s your name and blog address?

Amy B and my blog is Second City Randomness at http://secondcityrandomness.wordpress.com/

Amy B

2. How long have you been blogging?

I started blogging a little over a year ago, but it was a horrible crash and burn (probably for me and the readers equally).  I took a break and then started blogging again in November- supposedly about my running/eating efforts, which was also right about the time I injured myself and was off running for a couple months.  So over the last 6 months or so, it became a regular blog that chronicles overall thoughts on how I try to stay healthy on a daily basis.

3. What do you love / hate about blogging?

I love that it keeps me accountable with my workout plans and gives me an excuse to be trying new things.  The thing I dislike (I would never say hate when it comes to blogging!) is sometimes I feel like I disappoint when I’ve just had the most boring day of all time and really have nothing intelligent to say- but then again what I consider as an "intelligent post" may be subjective.  :)

4. What’s your favorite color?

I’m not a girly girl by any means, and actually have been told I have a somewhat guyish decorating style.  But I love pink.  It just brightens my mood…

5. Favorite movie?

I’m a huge fan of Death at a Funeral- the British version, not the recent remake.  A friend and I rented it from the suggestion of a girl that worked at the video store.  Best recommendation ever!  I just like the "off" humor.

6. Favorite book?

The Lovely Bones.  I wasn’t a fan of the movie- but the book was just amazing!

7. Favorite food?

After looking at the trend in my blogging, I would say Mexican food is a big staple in my diet in one way or the other.  But chocolate chip cookies would be a close second…

8. Chocolate or vanilla?

Depends.  If we’re talking ice cream, I prefer vanilla.  Anything else, I don’t like calling it dessert without a little chocolate topping it off!

9. Favorite tv show NOW and when you were growing up?

Now I would say Modern Family.  That is one show I just can’t stand to miss.  When I was growing up, it was probably the TGIF lineup on ABC.  It was the one time a week my brother and I were allowed soda.  So we’d be bouncing off the walls after the two hours span…

10. Do you like playing sports? Watching sports?

I’m a runner mostly, but I do love sports.  I played a lot of softball growing up.  Now, when I realize how mediocre I am, I prefer to watch unless it’s just pitch and catch or shooting around.  I feel the need to insert a St. Louis Cardinals shout out right here…

11. Are you a coffee or tea person? Or neither?

I drink iced tea like it’s my job.

12. Do you have tattoos or piercings?

No tattoos at the moment.  I would never rule it out, but I just don’t have anything that I’d be permanently happy with.  I do have a navel piercing and did have my tongue pierced for a couple years in my more rebellious phase of college.

13. Do you have any special talents?

I’m double jointed in 7 out of 10 fingers.  Is this useful in any way?  Not really.  But it’s kinda neat.  I’ve also been told I’m freakishly good at remembering birthdays.  I pride myself in that.

14. If you could go anywhere in the world TOMORROW, where would you go?

Greece.  Although I’d have to get my passport and paperwork in order first…

15. Last thing you ate?

I just threw away the wrapper to a Clif bar.  Chocolate chip and peanut crunch. A-Mazing.

16. When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Like every other average fifth grader, I wanted to be a marine biologist so I could work with dolphins all day.  Then I wanted to be the doctor who got to deliver babies.  Then I realized what those career paths would involve in detail.  And kindly passed.

17. What was your favorite subject in school?

I took two marketing communications classes (I was a marketing major) that I just adored.  The teachers were amazing and took examples out of current commercials, tv shows, media, etc.  They were great about relating the info to things we’d actually be doing in our given career path.

18. What games did you play when you were younger?

Parcheesi was my favorite boardgame.  Capture the Flag was my favorite gym class activity.  That and parachute day.  Don’t lie- you know you loved that day.

19. Favorite restaurant?

I don’t really have one.  When going out for dinner, I like seeking out new places… there aren’t many repeats, although I’d say Jason’s Deli is a regular lunch spot when I get the craving.

20. Favorite store?

Target.  For anything and everything.  Trader Joe’s for the majority of my grocery needs.  And Amazon for my Guess shoe fetish.

21. Favorite animal?

Definitely a dog person.  Although I cannot own one just yet because I’m still learning how to take care of myself.

22. Favorite thing to cook/make?

Cookies.  But I’m actually more proficient at making cupcakes.  That and they’re more fun to pimp out.

23. Most embarrassing guilty pleasure?

The fact that I’d rather spend Friday nights in with a solid movie and glass of wine instead of being out and social… I blame my purchase of the most comfortable couch of all time.

24. Do you have any nicknames?

Miss Bax.  Because I’m classy like that…

25. List one thing the “blog world” doesn’t know about you but should!

I was completely uneducated about food until about the age of 22.  Seriously… I thought Ranch dressing was healthy because it was salad dressing (yeah, I was one of THOSE people).  And I would have laughed if you told me two tablespoons was a serving size.  I’ll use two tablespoons just for dipping one slice of pizza in, thank you very much…  and olive oil?  What is that?    Yep, completely uneducated.  Then I started to read a little more about anything having to do with food and fitness.  Hello new world!

Thanks Amy!!
