Scatterbrained

I was so focused on writing my post this morning that I forgot how to make oatmeal.

Seriously.

How do I mess up oatmeal?

I make it all the time.

But today, for some reason, I used 1.5 cups of water with my .5 cup of oats instead of just 1 cup of water.

I could not, for the life of me, figure out why my oats were so watery and runny this morning.

I guess I was thinking of them as oatbran instead of oatmeal? With my oatbran, I use 1/3 cup oatbran and 1 cup water so I have to fill up my 1/3 cup measuring spoon 3 times. Apparently, I filled up my 1/2 cup measure 3 times for my oatmeal this morning instead of just twice.

Oh well – it still tasted great!

Definitely not as thick as a normal bowl of oats, but that blob of White Chocolate Wonderful was my reason for having oatmeal anyways ;)

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1.5 cups water
  • cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • banana
  • strawberries
  • 1 Tbsp White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter

Honestly, I’m kind of surprised I don’t do this more often.

In my family, I’m known as the one without much common sense, and I mess up easy things like this all the time.

Want proof?

When I was younger, I told my parents I wanted to be one of two things:

  • A librarian so I could check out books for free
  • A trash-woman so I would only have to work one day a week. Our garbage was picked up one day of the week, so I thought that was it!

True facts.

I wish I was kidding.

  1. This made me giggle- I have spazz out moments all the time… don’t think I haven’t done something similar to your oats oops…

  2. Ooo I always use 1.5 cups water (well 1 cup water, .5 cups almond milk) in my oats — and cook ’em extra long — I like it that way for some reason haha. Love the trash man aspiration as a kid, made me laugh today ;)

  3. hehehe, very cute about your childhood aspirations :) it tasted delicious, that’s what matters!

  4. I love the childhood stories.

Because I went to the library so much as a child I didn’t understand why people had to buy books at the book store. We moved around so much it just didn’t make sense.

  5. I use much more water than called for when making oatmeal. It makes it so much more volumous! That story about wanting to be a librarian for free books is so cute. :)

  6. Hey, my childhood aspirations were even sadder, I too wanted to be a librarian – so I could use a stamper to make the due-back dates!

  7. I tend to do the 3 to 1 ratio for liquid to oats. I use almond or coconut milk though for part. Sounds like a filling breakfast! Love the childhood job ideas…so great!

  8. Last night I completely screwed up my bowl of oats by putting wayyy to much liquid in it. I never actually measure it anyways, but this time it was bad. I also accidently poured about 3 tsp of vanilla in it. I fished out the most I could but thankfully with all of my difficulties it all turned out great.

  9. i screw up oats often and i ve made them a million times so don’t feel bad !

  10. That’s hilarious about wanting to be a librarian to check out books for free! My brother always wanted to be an ice cream truck driver, as well as make up the little songs the ice cream truck plays. So cute!

  11. Muahahahahhaahahahaaa!!! You wanted to be a trash lady!! Wahahaha! Oh Brandi, you crack me up! I am wiping tears from my eyes! Hahahahahaha! Still laughing!!!

  12. I have been known to mess up a bowl of oats once of twice when I wasn’t thinking about it. Funny because you’d think it would be mindless by now. :)

Mmmm, White Chocolate Wonderful! So Wonderful! :)

  13. Your facts are hilarious! Ha I forget how to make oats all the time too!
