Perfect Pizza

Our pizza turned out so good yesterday! Definitely the best homemade pizzas we’ve made yet.

I used the same dough recipe I normally use (subbing in 3 cups of whole wheat flour) but it was the cheese the made the difference this time.

Since our food processor attachment broke months ago (and I’m usually too lazy to hand grate cheese), we typically use pre-shredded cheese on our pizzas.

No more!

I had a block of cheddar and mozzarella that we grated yesterday to use on the pizzas, and the cheese actually bubbled and browned and made our pizza look like a real pizza.

Homemade pizzas always taste good, but the pre-shredded cheese just melted and never browned like it should.

I really wish I had taken pictures of the whole pies when they came out of the oven. Nick and I were so proud!

We made one pepperoni + red onion and one bbq chicken pizza.

And thankfully, we had some ready for leftover lunch today ;)

Along with some spinach/romaine/carrot/red onion/goat cheese salads, it was the perfect lunch today.

I’m glad we went out and hiked yesterday afternoon, because the weather is just nasty today! It’s only in the 40s and is gray and raining.

But…that makes it a perfect afternoon for laundry, baking, and napping – which is what I’m doing next ;)

What’s your favorite pizza topping?

  1. that certainly does look yummy! mmm, the last pizza (maybe more like a flatbread) was amazing with roasted garlic goat cheese, caramelized onions and sauteed spinach and mushrooms… k, now i’m craving it again :) good thing i’ve got some dough in the freezer!

  2. mmm pepperoni and red onion sounds so delicious! YUM!!!

I love red onion and bacon on pizza.

  3. We just made homemade pizza last night too and it was incredible! I don’t think I could ever feel the same way about take out pizza again after making some delicious homemade pizzas. It’s so easy and so much better than the take out option.

I can only imagine how good yours tasted. Glad you are having a chilled and relaxing weekend.

Enjoy the rest of the day!

  4. I’m a sucker for hawaiian pizza.
That’s awesome you made your own! Yummy :-)

  5. I love tons of veggies like asparagus and roasted red pepper with a mix of feta and mozz.

  6. Awesome looking pizza! Great job! :)

Favorite pizza toppings? Cheese (of course!), mushrooms, caramelized onions, and roasted garlic.

  7. I love turkey pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, pineapple bits…though I usuallyl don’t put all of them on at once :p

  8. Your pizzas were perfect! I love the red onion next to the pepperoni – so pretty. And I’m lazy, too, when it comes to grating my own cheese. The bagged kind is just too easy to buy and used. But after seeing the difference it made on your dinner, I might just have to bite the bullet and grate my own. I hope you enjoyed your Sunday :)

  9. i love making mexican pizzas using tortilla shells as crust with salsa, black beans, mushrooms, peppers, and other veggies :)

the freshly grated cheese looks so authentic! yummm

  10. I love jalapenos on pizza. Homemade pizza is the best!

  11. It does look like REAL pizza! And it looks GOOD!! :)

  12. Pineapple and ANY veggie! YUM!

  13. i love broccoli and mushrooms, but i also love a cracked egg on top. and also garlic and clam…yum…

  14. I’m gonna need to make my own pizza dough sometime…just can’t measure up to storebought!
My fave topping figs, arugula, goat cheese, prosciutto!

  15. I’ve never used a real block of cheese on homemade pizza either–looks like I should start! Yum!

  16. Yum! Favorite pizza toppings: mushrooms and sausage (separate or together) ;)

We had great “nap weather” too yesterday, which was perfect, because I was in desperate need of some rest!
