Back to Basics

I was definitely not ready for Monday morning – I forgot to even set my alarm clock! I finally got out of bed and into the shower once I heard Nick up with Maggie.

It’s a good thing oatmeal is fast to make ;)

I’m going back to basics for food this week.

I know that I’m going to be eating everything I can while in Spain – I don’t want to miss out on anything there!

Paella.

Churros and chocolate for breakfast.

So, I’m trying to eat good + balanced this week, even more than normal.

Maybe not so much chocolate on my oatmeal this week or cookies every day ;)

  • 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • 1 Tbsp almond butter
  • 1 Tbsp sliced almonds
  • 1 Tbsp craisins

I know one tablespoon of chocolate chips on my oatmeal won’t make or break anything, but I have a feeling this trip will be pretty indulgent, so I want to go INTO the week in Spain feeling good!

We are bringing a good amount of bars (LARABAR, Clif, etc) with us to have snacks on the plane or during the trip, but I can’t wait to have authentic Spanish food.

3 more days!

What’s the best trip/vacation you’ve ever had? Where was it? What do you remember most?

  1. The only thing good about today?! HIMYM ;)

I’m sure you’ve thought of this already but you can go on to your airliner’s website and request special meals incase you don’t want the usual plane food. I always request vegetarian but there are a whole bunch of different kind and they’re usually healthier than the meals they serve everyone else.

  2. Ironically, my best/favorite trip was to Spain with my best friend. I fell in love with Sevilla and the people. You are going to have an absolutely amazing time so take every opportunity you can to explore and taste their amazing cuisine.

  3. Chocolate churros for breakfast sound amazing! I haven’t really traveled much at all – I just love my basic family vacas. :)

  4. You are going to be in foodie HEAVEN!!! I’m already excited to hear about your trip when you get back!

My favorite trip was when I went to Paris in college. Chocolate croissants…hmmmmmmm.

  5. Ok, when you get to Spain, you HAVE to have serrano ham, paella, some crusty bread, cheese…ok, just eat everything. :)

My best trip was honestly our honeymoon! After the nightmare it took to get there, we felt like we really deserved to relax!

  6. My favorite trip was our honeymoon to Hawaii. I loved it there so much, so peaceful and beautiful. I hope to go back someday soon!

  7. Israel. It’s the most amazing place ever.
But, I LOVED Spain. I fell in love with Barcelona and all of the amazing foods throughout the country.

  8. Oh the food is SO amazing in Spain! Make sure you try everything…! My favorite trip was when we went to Rome last year…of course the food was the best part!

  9. You must be SO excited for your trip! My most amazing trip was probably to Antarctica, it was like being on another planet.

  10. I believe I’m obligated to say my best trip was my honeymoon! (but it really was a fun trip-we went to Mexico!)

  11. I loved our honeymoon in Italy. I remember all of the delicious gelato, pastries and pastas we ate! One of my favorite memories was just walking around in Venice enjoying all of the shops and canals.

You are going to have so much fun! My father-in-law works in Madrid and always raves about the excellent paella. My MIL loves the sangria (but apparently it’s a “tourist” drink?)

  12. Ah – so jealous of your trip to Spain. You’re going to have SO much fun.

The best trip I’ve been on is my honeymoon. We went to Maui and Kauai and Kauai was insanely beautiful.

  13. I overslept this morning too.. monday sure did creep up on me this week!

  14. I know what you mean about “back to basics”…I always start to miss just plain old oats when I go on trips, so enjoy away!

France for spring break over my freshman year of college was by far one of the most amazing trips I’ve ever been on. I was with 2 of my best friends and probably the most memorable thing was riding the TGV (high speed train) and getting very drunk off of French vino that was like 3 euros per bottle!

  15. My favorite trip ever was a 10 day bus tour I took with a bunch of my family members throughout Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Lots of beautiful scenery, DELISH German beer and great company. (Although I was really sick of being on the bus by the end…)

Have so much fun in Spain! I went on a crazy long cruise in 2008 that stopped in Valencia and Barcelona and those were two of my favorite stops. I definitely want to do a more extensive Spain trip someday.

  16. I always like to try to clean up my eating a bit before a big trip too. I’m still sooo jealous of Spain. Can’t wait to read all about it :)

  17. Best trip I ever took was to Spain when I studied abroad. I traveled all around and even went to Portugal, Italy, Switzerland and France while there.

I remember the old world feel about everything. Shopping at multiple stores for groceries eating on the streets in cafes. It was magical.

  18. Work got canceled today (I can’t believe it) so I had a hard time getting up too. Sleeping in can be so appealing to me!

My best vacation was going to the mountains with Bill. It was so much fun to share a cabin and just hike and enjoy nature.

  19. i totally feel ya on back to basics – that is how my week is going to be too! yayyyyyy for spain – that is SO exciting!

  20. The best trip we have ever had was to Bahamas. We got chased out of St. Lucia for our honeymoon that both the airlinea and the resort gave us free vouchers to re-do our honeymoon.. which we did a year later… but it was the most relaxing and perfect 5 day vacation I have taken so far.

  21. You’ll walk so much and the food is so fresh that it won’t matter. I ate pasta and a croissant everyday in Europe and came back lighter than I was when I left.

  22. You are so lucky girl!
The best trip that I took was to England and Ireland about 6 years ago. I fell in LOVE with Ireland and I’m going back this June. I can’t even put into words what was so amazing about it but it’s just one of those things… it takes your breath away and it steals your heart. :)
