Snowy + Scratchy

We got snow last night! Can you believe it? I thought winter was over here, but I guess not because they’re calling for even MORE this Friday. Maybe we’ll have one more shot at a winter wonderland before Spring hits?

Thankfully, Nick and I both feeling better this morning. My throat is still kind of scratchy, but it’s better than yesterday.

One good thing is that Maggie is getting a little less bitey and a little more cuddly :) She still bites – there’s no getting around that fact – but her bites are less tough and she’s lost most of her baby teeth so they’re not as sharp now.

That’s pretty much what our mornings consist of now: waking up, showering, playing/cuddling, eating breakfast, and getting out the door for work.

And every day, it seems like we have less and less time for breakfast because we’re playing with and taking care of Maggie, but it’s totally worth it.

As long as I still have time for oatmeal, I’m okay.

  • 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp almond butter
  • 1 Tbsp dark chocolate chips
  • 1 Tbsp coconut

It’s kind of crazy how having pets can totally change your life, your schedule. I think it’s the one change that most people don’t fight – maybe because you get cuddles and kisses in exchange for it?

What would be your dream morning routine?

  1. I would love to be able to sit with coffee, read the paper, and stay longer with my pooch. Oh, and to have at least an hour plus me time at the gym. Wishful thinking.

Glad to hear you’re starting to feel better!

  2. We got snow here too – totally unexpected!

  3. snow?! all we got in NE was heavy rain. not sure which is worse haha

  4. I’m glad both of you are feeling better!

I love cuddling in bed with the toddler! Since he gets up VERY early, it’s a reality on most mornings… :)

  5. Glad you guys are feeling better! Happy Tuesday!

  6. My dream morning routine would be fresh tropical fruit served on a silver tray, a massage, and have my hair and makeup done for me.

    Now back to reality,
I need to remember the coconut in my oatmeal

  7. Glad you guys are on the mend! I’m so sad there wasn’t a new HIMYM last night – bummer, dude.

Dream morning – nice 65F sunrise enjoyed on my porch with a mug of coffee and tasty bowl of oats :)

  8. I actually have a great morning routine this semester. Classes are done by 11 everyday. I would rather wake up early and get things done. I still leave myself and hour after I wake up to eat and read a bit. Then half hour to get ready.

  9. first sick, not snow – you poor thing can’t catch a break! Wishing you health and sunshine on this fine tuesday :)

  10. Dream morning? Waking up early, running on the quiet (ha) streets of NYC, grabbing coffee and hitting up the farmer’s market – which would also be deserted in my dream world…!

  11. Aww! My dream morning would DEF! include my two little pups..when I’m at home. My dream morning at school is to wake up, maybe squeeze in a w/o to really get me going, take a hot shower, get ready, make coffee and a yummy breakfast and check email/read blogs/whatevvs! Then school hits and I wake up from my dream! lol

  12. haha the first thing I thought after reading your first sentence was–“ooh her oats got snow too!” ;)

I think I have my “dream” morning routine this semester, since I have all afternoon classes. I get up between 6:30-7 most days, eat breakfast, blog, workout, do schoolwork, and then head to class. I know that for me, being able to eat a good breakfast, get a workout in, and have some computer time are things that I need to have a good morning. I think I could make this work even when I have a job, because I’m a morning person. I like waking up early to do the things I need to do!

  13. I’m so glad you are feeling better!

  14. I don’t care what anyone says, a dog really does change your life. They’re isn’t a morning that I don’t think, “I wish I had a little more time to snuggle with my Buddy or throw ball with him!” Every time I leave him I’m always rushing to get back to him and wondering if he’s okay. At least with kids you can take them pratically everywhere with you. :) Enjoy these puppy days … they can be rough at first but when you come home to that wagging tail and those kisses you’ll know that all of your sleepless nights and borrowed time is SO worth it!

  15. I wish I could get up 15 minutes earlier so I have time to just lounge around, catch up on some blogs, etc. Instead, I do that and end up running a few minutes late. But I’m working on it!

    That oatmeal looks especially delicious!

  16. I would loooove snow. We just got a ton of rain :-( Winter, don’t go away.

  17. I was surprised at the snow too! I’m actually hoping we don’t get any more :?
My dream morning routine would be eating oatmeal, sipping coffee, and playing around on the internet :)

  18. We’ve got snow coming down really fast right now.

My dream morning would involve exercise and a leasurely breakfast. I wish I was a morning person but right now I roll out of bed just in time to throw on my uniform pop oatmeal in the microwave and run downstairs to my office with my oatmeal.

  19. My dream morning would be getting up and relaxing while I drank coffee and read the paper….maybe at a sidewalk cafe in Paris!

    Glad you’re feeling better!

  20. A great morning routine would be if I could work at home for myself, so I didn’t have to plan an outfit and get out of the house until I wanted to, haha.

We’re expecting another round of snow this week too. Bah.

Your oats look great. Hopefully they’ll get rid of that scratchy throat :)

  21. ahh coconut!! i almost bought some the other day to put on my oats! does it make a huge diff?

  22. Love your snowy oats! Dream Morning routine: up early for breakfast, tv, coffee and pajamas til noon.
