I keep thinking today is Tuesday for some reason – it makes me happy when I look at the calendar and see that today is actually Wednesday. We’re halfway through the week, people – get excited  ;)

I ended up not having a snack this afternoon, and now I’m happy I didn’t! I’m actually working on a baking project right now, so I’m probably going to be trying it once it’s ready.

Dinner tonight was leftovers of the veggie chili with some avocado, scallion + hot sauce.

Nick and I were trying out new places for pictures tonight, so we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks! One thing we need to figure out is the lighting in the dining room – I love using the table as the background for pictures, but the normal lighting in the room makes shadows, so we’re working on it  :)

I think my Oikos recipe will turn out well! I’m planning on entering this baked good in their contest, so I should have a post about it in the next few days (once I test + photograph them).

They’re not done yet, though, so we’ll see. I kind of just threw things together that sounded good and am hoping for the best.

I’ve got to get these out of the oven and get ready to catch up on Top Chef – I slept through the episode last week, so I have to see what I missed!

Do you like to follow recipes or just make things up as you go?

  1. I wish I was backwards – I kept thinking today was Thursday!

  2. Can’t wait to see what recipe you whip up
I think I have a mental block where I can’t follow a recipe when I find it. I need to change something even if it’s so trivial to make it feel like I’m added something to it

  3. Lighting is such a problem for me too. Since we live in a somewhat “unconventional” apartment as part of my job, I am stuck with dull overhead lighting and limited windows, not to mention NO outdoor space. How I would kill for a patio! Your veggie chili looks delish and well lit by the way ;)

  4. i keep thinking it’s sunday-which means it’s going to be a very short week for me!

  5. I love recipes. Once I’m comfortable with how certain things are made then I start to experiment with changes.

  6. I’ll be anxious to see what your baking up in your kitchen!!

Btw–I made your pumpkin stuffed French toast for my mom this morning, she’s in love! I will definitely do a shout out tmrw :-)

  7. as an oikos addict I am veryyy excited to hear about this recipe :)

  8. I usually use a recipe as a guideline but end up making it my own somewhere in the process. Only problem is that I am not good about writing it down for next time if it turns out good.

  9. Oooh can’t wait to see what you’re making!! And I usually follow recipes if I’m baking…if I’m cooking dinner or something – I never do!

  10. I hate following recipes. I like looking at cook books for inspiration and then I wing it — actually, I only look at the photos and never the recipes.

  11. I suck at following recipes when I cook but I always use them for baking. For regular food, I usually go with the “throw stuff in a pan” method and see what comes out!

  12. Can’t wait to see what you do with your Oikos!

  13. I make it up as I go with what I have at home.

  14. when I follow recipes.. i more so semi follow them, and chnage things up :-D

  15. I like to stick to plan, when I make it for the first time at least. But that’s because I’m not a great cook so I still don’t have that “independence” one has when they already know how to cook, what flavors work with each other, etc.

  16. For cooking I might use a recipe as guidance when first making something, but will tweak it as I see fit. For everyday stuff I tend to just toss stuff together.

For baking I pretty much stick to a recipe since there’s quite a bit of chemistry involved and I don’t want to screw things up.

  17. SO glad the week is almost over!

I do a little bit of both, but I’m mostly a recipe follower.

  18. I’m not comfortable enough with baking to make up recipes yet, but I hope it comes with time!

  19. I absolutely love when it’s a day later than you actually think. But definitely hate when it’s the other way around…

I tend to stick to recipes. I need to learn to just wing it!
