Reading Repeats

Thank goodness Wednesday is halfway gone – I keep forgetting that we’re leaving for San Fran for the Foodbuzz Festival in 2 days!!!

I’m so excited for the trip, but still very anxious/nervous about cooking in front of hundreds of foodies! How did I get myself into this? :)

Lunch today isn’t super exciting, but it is still good.

I brought more of the ham/bean soup and lots of celery + hummus.

This soup is so filling and good to have on crisp, fall days.

I’m almost done reading Julie & Julia! I’m hoping to finish it tonight or tomorrow because I have some new books I’m taking with me on the trip this weekend.

And I’m not sure why I was thinking about this, but do you read some books over and over again?

I haven’t done it in a while, but I remember reading books repeatedly when I was younger. I just loved them so much that I would finish the book and just start it again the next day, even though I knew everything that happened.

I remember reading 7 books in one day during one summer! Can you say nerd alert? I had nothing else to do and I was just getting addicted to those Goosebumps books – do you remember those? Not a good idea to read 7 in one day. I had bad dreams that night of dolls coming alive and masks that took control over people.

Maybe that addiction is why I ended up an English major? I have to say, I am a bit sad that I’m not doing anything with my education and my love for reading. I guess I never thought I would because my dream job is to just READ all day. Find a good book, a comfy place to sit, and get lost for a few hours. I did fall in love with syntax in college, but there aren’t many jobs using that, either.

I love reading a good book. I love getting lost in the story, getting attached to the characters, and truly being sad when I finish the last sentence.

Some of the books I remember reading over and over again were

  • Mandy by Julie Andrews
  • Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne
  • ALL of the Babysitter Club/Babysitter’s Little Sister books
  • All of the Sweet Valley High books I owned

What about you? Do you re-read books?

  1. Omg, I totally used to read those goosebumps books, I LOVED them ahaha I still have them around here somewhere. :)

Also, don’t be nervous, you’ll do great! ;)

  2. I re-read all of my Stephen King novels – he’s brilliant and his tales always excite me :)

  3. Ohmigosh I LOVED Goosebumps! And R.L Stine? What about Sweet Valley high and Babysitters Club? I loved them all! I could read 1-2 books a day, too. I never re-read ones though.

  4. You will do fabulously at Foodbuzz! Your meals always look stellar on here:D

  5. I totally remember Goosebumps and used to be equally obsessed! Hehe. Also, I don’t know if you remember the series that started with “Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots.” Those were fun too, but I seem to be the only one who remembers them!

Have FUN in SF! Can’t wait to hear all about it!

  6. I totally re-read books . . . even now! I love getting to know a story inside out :-)

I always wanted to read all day too — that’s why I ended up in NYC working in publishing — if you’re serious about it, I’d recommend taking a copyediting class. I took one at NYU and learned so much — and did a few freelance copyediting projects while I was working at a publisher. It’s a good career skill!

  7. oh my goodness, yes. I used to re-read books all the time when I was younger. I loved the Sweet Valley High books and Babysitter’s Club. Remember Book It? I was always one of the kids with the most number of books read. Oooh and remember when they had Book Fairs or gave out the Scholastic flyers selling books? My parents rarely bought from either, but it was so much fun to oooh and ahh over all the books at the fair or pour over the flyer to pick the books I wanted.

  8. i love re-reading books from my childhood, especially sweet valley high….i need to start doing that again!

  9. ooh, julie and julia is on my to-read list :) can’t wait to meet you this weekend!! how big of a suitcase are you bringing? i’m worried we might get too much stuff ;)

    i don’t usually re-read books, but I LOVED babysitter’s club :)

  10. You’ll do great at Foodbuzz! That is so exciting! I read Babysitters Club books over and over lol.

  11. I don’t remember re-reading books as a kid but I am definitely re-reading kids books now. ;-) As the mother of a 1.5 year old we get to re-read a lot. I can quote The Big Red Barn verbatim.

As an adult I re-read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Memoirs of a Geisha. Those stories provoke memories from my childhood. LOVE them.

  12. I do re-read books I love. My current favorite to do again + again is the Mitford series by Jan Karon. So entertaining. It is about life in a small town with common ordinary folks.

Hope you do well this weekend!

  13. I don’t think I could reread a book. I have enough troubles keeping my attention the first time. I don’t even like watching movies more than once, lol

  14. I’d love to reread books but there’s so many new ones I want to read that I never have time to go back to the old ones. I think I reread Nancy Drew and Baby Sitter’s Club books all the time when I was little. I loved Goosbumps too… and also fell in love with syntax (all linguistics stuff really) in college!

  15. You can still do something with your English major and love for reading! It’s never too late :)

and I think you’ll do great this weekend!

I absolutely LOVE to read but I rarely reread books. I get bored, I want something new!

  16. i want to read Julie and Julia so bad! I can’t wait to hear how you liked it! I was a total babysitters club kinda girl! hehe i miss those books!

  17. I’ve only ever read a book twice, once. My favorite book – Redeeming Love. I’m such a sucker for chick lit. ha!

  18. don’t tell anyone — but I’ve read each of the twlight books twice.. in fact, the 1st one I read 3 times… slightly embarassing.. but I love!

  19. Goosebumps!! I loved that series! I’ve read Pride & Prejudice multiple times but that’s about it.

  20. Ah, a fellow bookworm! I am definitely a re-reader, then and now.

I never really heard of the Goosebumps series…but I’m a couple years older than you so perhaps they came after the point I was in that age level for reading. But I definitely read the BabySitters Club and Sweet Valley High books, loved them! And Christopher Pike and RL Stine. I even still have some of those old books!

I read anything these days and am constantly reading at least one book. My all time favorite book is The Count of Monte Cristo. I’ll admit though, I’m a Harry Potter AND Twilight fan. And I adore Stephen King!

  21. totally. did the babysitter club thing. in fact, i read so much/so fast that nobody in my family would buy me books anymore because i’d have finished them so fast.

nowadays I read THe Lion and the Witch and the Wardrobe. As an adult, I enjoy the metaphors and symbolisim where as a child, it was the narrative I enjoyed.

  22. Remember the Ramona Quimby books? Anything by Judy Bloom back in the day.

For years I’ve been telling myself that I should by the All American Family series but haven’t gotten around to it. And the Boxcar Children series too.

  23. I’ve definitely read “a tree grows in brooklyn” a NUMBER of times when I was younger. Love francie, sigh!

  24. I am really sad that I haven’t been doing much pleasure reading lately, mostly because I spend SO much time reading chapters upon chapters for college. But I will read over winter break a lot more!

  25. I am a devoted re-reader! Some of my favorite re-reads are anything by Kristin Hannah and the older Nora Roberts trilogies.

Best wishes at the Food Buzz conference – you’ll be great!
