Frosting and Dessert

I ended up not reading at all last night – I crashed on the couch and watched a little bit of Dirty Jobs. Mike Rowe is so funny, but I just could not keep my eyes open.

It got cold last night! And we woke up to frost this morning.

Brr. I actually just went to take my breakfast pictures outside and am eating it with my fleece still on!

How perfect to have dessert for breakfast when I wake up to frosting on the ground?

Banana split strikes again.

The oatmeal base is pretty basic:

  • 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • cinnamon stirred in at end

I just layer the cooked oatmeal into the banana and then add toppings.

Today’s split included TJs alpha & omega trek mix (almost gone!) and some crunchy pb.

It doesn’t taste any different than having oatmeal in a bowl, but it is more fun to eat  :)

Do you still play with your food?

I may not be smearing it all over my face or the table, but it is fun having foods that are fun to eat, right?

We have so much frost outside…it is only 20 degrees here right now! Yikes.

  2. This looks seductivly good!! Too bad I already had breakfast (hours ago and lunch!)! Have to make this sometime soon!!

I love to play with my food!! I actually love eating with fingers – fingerfood!!! :D I try to make food as beautiful and fun as possible – if possible!! :)

  3. I’d take frost over snow anyday! lol

  4. That banana split looks incredible!! I’m going to have to try that one of these days and I don’t even like bananas :)

Ahhh yes, frost! We’ve had a few mornings like that already! Drives me crazy when I’m trying to leave and I forget to accommodate for the time to get rid of it.

  5. I’m starting to play with my food. I’m not a good cook but I’m trying to learn. :)

I love to play with my food. I like to have FUN when I eat. I also still have a little immaturity in me where I like to mush things all together and dare people to eat it. I call it playing high school cafeteria. Kind of dorky, I know

  8. MI has had frost since like June..haha i kid i kid, but we have had that already too, and its quite frustrating!

That banana split oats looks awesome, what a great idea! I would certainly eat that right up! :)

That’s not the kind of frosting I enjoy.
Whole Foods had the most interesting looking Trail Mix yesterday at the bulk bins. I’m not a trail mix person but I almost had to buy it. It had chocolate swirls and pb chips and yogurt covered almonds and tons of nuts! Yum

  12. your banana split looks AMAZING!! so good! I need to go to TJ to get some of that trek mix it looks fabulous! :)

Frosty mornings are fun when you can stay inside with cozy tea and warm oats…but not so fun when youre rushing out the door ;) I’m so not ready for winter!

  13. That is SOOO cool–looks incredibly delicious! I love all of the toppings!

  14. haha, I love that breakfast idea! It looks so pretty! :)

  15. That looks like my kind of banana split.

I play with my food in the sense that I like to make it look pretty and organized. I will put even numbers of banana slices or arrange my apple in a flower shape. I’m even more likely to play with my food when I have my cousins visiting and we are making things together.

  16. This is one of the prettiest breakfasts I have ever seen!

  17. Haha! I love how you said it’s great to have dessert for breakfast when there’s frosting on the ground. What a great way to look at it! What do you call mounds of snow on the ground? Cottage cheese or Fluff? I love your outlook on life :) Love that banana split, too! Like I said, you need to sell your breakfast ;)

  18. What an awesome and fun idea for breakfast! My girls would love that…thanks for the inspiration!

  22. i want to make your banana split oatmeal so badly! yeah, it might not taste different than normal oatmeal, but that looks like a fun way to start the morning :)

  23. I love playing with my food! Your banana split breakfast looks divine :) I am totally going to try that very soon — I think it would be a great change up from adding the banana into the oats while cooking!

  24. Yeah, I do play with it, like arranging it colorfully and in shapes, making snowman from fudge balls, cookie castles, funny shapes on capuccino… that’s fun

  25. I think I’d like your “banana split” better than a real one. That looks so awesome.
