Showered to Sleep

Can you believe it’s November? I can’t. It doesn’t feel like it should be this late in the year already – time is flying by too fast.

The shower yesterday turned out great! Jen and I prepped and cooked all afternoon yesterday and everything turned out really good. We had a group of about 9, I think, which worked out perfectly for the space and the amount of food. It was so much fun! That was the first baby shower I’ve ever helped to throw and only the 2nd baby shower I’ve ever been to, period.

I ended up getting home a little after 9 last night, putting on my pajamas, reading for a bit, and then cuddling with Nick until we fell asleep. I’m not used to being away from the house for so long or being able to spend the entire afternoon / evening with a bunch of girls, so it was fun. Nick also did some laundry and vacuumed the house while I was gone, which was very helpful.

Although I don’t like daylight savings and having to change the clocks, the one good thing about “falling back” is that it’s lighter in the mornings again. I don’t think that’s a good trade off for getting dark at 4:30 pm, but I’ll take what I can get.

All I could think about this morning was a big bowl of oatmeal. It’s a little chilly and foggy outside, and it was time for some pumpkin oats.

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup water
  • pinch salt
  • 1/4 cup or so pumpkin
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • tons of cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp TJs nuts over raspberries mix (mostly mixed in, chocolate chips saved for top)

There’s coffee waiting, and I guess I have to get to work soon…

What’s your choice: Thanksgiving or Christmas?

I have always loved Thanksgiving, and it’s always been my favorite holiday. I’m not exactly sure why, but I can’t wait for it.

  1. CHRISTMAS!! But I love both :)

  2. Novemeber already is hard to believe! I am a Xmas girl for sure–I love decorating and giving gifts. OH and how could I forget?! Baking cookies! :0)

  3. The shower sounds like fun! :)

    Thanksgiving.

    Have a great day!

  4. Ahhh I can’t choose at ALL! I love both holidays.

  5. Glad the shower went well!
I don’t celebrate Christmas, so definitely Thanksgiving. On Christmas we always go to the movies, then for Chinese, b/c that is all that is open! That’s a typical Jewish Christmas :)

  6. I’m sure I’d love Thanksgiving if we had it here!! So I have to go with Christmas! But actually I’m not a big holiday-fan at all!! *hides*
Wish you a wonderful day (hope it isn’t a dreary day like here!!)! Hug n.

  7. I’m a Christmas girl… :)

  8. As a new comer to the love of oats, those look DELISH my love! :)

I’m a total Christmas girl! the love in the air and all the cheer just makes me a happy person!

  9. i like christmas… because we eat a whole nother turkey dinner on it. plus i get presents!

  10. natural light always makes photos look so much better, doesn’t it?

Umm…I’m going with Christmas. The kids in the family get really excited. Last year we had our first real white Christmas and it was so cool to see the look on their faces.

  11. CHRISTMAS!!!! probably because my birthday is 3 days before it doesn’t hurt either :)

yay for light mornings – my oatmeal this morning looked so pretty. even though it is dark sooner, i do like waking up to light. i guess morning workouts are going to have to start being implemented!

have a fabulous day dear brandi!

  12. I think Thanksgiving, though it’s a tough choice. I don’t know, any time of sitting around a fire with family drinking hot cocoa(or in my case coffee) is a good time, right? :-)

  13. Definitely Thanksgiving. Love my fam! :)

  14. I envy your breakfast today. I woke up to late to make myself some pumpkin oats that I planned yesterday before bed :(

  15. Gotta be Christmas! There’s just something festive in the air that I love. Christmas is much more of a “big deal” where I come from.

  16. We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving and I LOVE Christmas so the choice’s not that hard :D

  17. I can’t believe how fast this year is flying. It definitely doesn’t seem like November. This time last year I was in PT to relearn how to do tons of stuff after back surgery and this year I’m a workout machine :-)

I like Thanksgiving because there is less pressure. For our job the brunt of it starts Black friday so Thanksgiving is our last chance to breathe until new years.

  18. I love both holidays but there is just SOMETHING about Christmas that makes it my fave!

  19. I think this year Thanksgiving will be best. It changes year to year with me.

I’m with ya, I hate the early darkness, but at least the sun’s up in the a.m.

  20. That is a super tricky question. I am such a fan of Thanksgiving, but I have to admit I think I am going to have to go with Christmas because Christmas includes a huge Christmas dinner AND presents. So I mean although Christmas dinner usually includes different dishes, it is basically the same thing.
Love your oats, I have to try that trail mix next time I go to TJs

  21. My mom and I have a Black Friday shopping ritual so I love thanksgiving for that. Overall, I’d say Christmas for the seasonal spirit. It’s not so much about the presents (ok, maybe a little about the presents), I just really love the lights/trees/smells…general Christmas spirit.
