Rude Awakenings

Good morning! Can you believe it’s October?!?

Now I feel like fall has “officially” begun. It is in the 40s here right now and they were calling for a possible first frost last night!

I was sleeping so well until 5 am when one of our fire alarms decided to go off.

Nick and I both sprung out of bed, turned on some lights, and tried to figure out what was going on.

We checked all of the alarms…nothing now.

No smoke.

Nothing left on in the house.

In the words of Stephanie Tanner: “How Rude!”

After checking the house for a while, we went back to bed only to have to get up soon after.

Needless to say, I fell asleep on the couch this morning while watching the news after taking my shower  :)  A little power nap never hurt anyone.

A good breakfast never hurt anyone, either.

I made the same bowl I had the other morning – it’s just too good!

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup water
  • pinch salt
  • 1 small banana
  • cinnamon

Topped with TJ’s Nuts Over Raspberries Trail Mix.

Those dark chocolate chips + dried raspberries + salty peanuts and almonds are irresistible.

I think the coffee is ready, too, so add on a cup or two of this:

Have you ever had a rude awakening?

And did YOU watch Full House?  :)  I used to love that show.

  2. that’s a yummy bowl, perfect for a cold morning!
    happy october 1st! :)

  3. Rude awakening = fireworks.

LOOOVE ‘Full House,’ even to this day :-D

  4. Love the Full House reference! It used to be my favorite show when I was younger! Your breakfast looks amazing!

  5. Oh my gosh, freshman year of college a fire alarm went off at like 4:30 in the morning after we had come back from a really crazy party…My room had EYE LID PENETRATING LIGHTS so not only was it really loud, it was also blinding.

It was also like 30 degrees outside and the whole building was wearing just pajamas…But it was for good reason. Someone left brownies baking in the kitchen overnight and they set on fire!

I used to watch Full House, DUBBED, in Ukraine. It was amazing. When I moved here, I was like “oh…that’s what they really sound like?” :)

    I also can’t believe it’s already October…

  6. I loved Full House, it was my Friday night show!! I also really loved Growing Pains :D

  7. I love little power naps like that. Cozying up on the couch in the morning after a breakfast and then dozing off is my kind of introduction to fall. I am actually super excited it’s October!!! I can’t wait for Halloween and then Thanksgiving.
    Lovely oats my dear!!!
I used to loveee Full House, but I really never watched it that much.

  8. Brr…speaking of frost, we had our first 2 nights ago–drat!

I l-o-v-e Full House. I got the first season on DVD and am really enjoying it–can’t wait to get all seasons :-)

  9. Your oatmeal looks sooo good! I think I’ll have to recreate it right now…. ;)

  10. Hi Brandi,

Fire alarms can go off for many reasons:
The alarm may be old and you might need to replace it,
    You might need New Batteries,
Dust may have gotten into it,
Heat change (did you turn on your heating system?)
    or
Is it a combination fire & carbon monoxide detector?

Besides the plumbing company we also have a few properties we rent.
I can figure out just about anything, or pretend too!

    Hope this helps.

  11. I loved full house so much! I totally watch reruns sometimes-they’re on ABC Family

  12. I watched that as a kid and said that all the time. How Rude!

When I lived in the dorms in seminary someone set off the fire alarm at 4am making toast before their workout. I was not happy and neither was anyone else who had to go out in snow with bathrobes and slippers and hunker in cars and the classrooms until the building was clear.

  13. I used to watch Full House ALL THE TIME! I even catch some of the re-runs now :)

Rude awakenings…. I live near some housing owned by Boston University, or apartments that are rented by some BU students. Enough said. :)

I do remember one time in college being woken up by the fire alarm… 25 minutes AFTER it had been going off. I guess my RA had knocked on my door and everything, but I was in such a sound sleep I didn’t hear it. I’m thankful that even though the fire was real, it wasn’t serious and I woke up and got out okay.

  14. I LOVED Full House. I remember having a big sleepover party just to celebrate because the episode where Uncle Jesse and Rebecca got married was on.

  15. I loved Full House! I wanted to be DJ – she was so cool. lol

  16. That trailmix sounds soo good. Have you had their Temptation Trail Mix? peanuts, almond, cashews, dried cherries, belgian chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips. It doesn’t last for long around here

  17. Ah full house! Favorite show of all time.
I would be so mad if a fire alarm woke me up at 5 in the morning!

  18. Same EXACT thing happen to me this summer when I was home! It scared the living **** out of me!! LOL. Apparently if a creepy crawly gets into the smoke detector they can trigger it some how… yes my mom did research this after our “rude awakening”.
Of course i LOVED full house, it was the best! The innocent Olsen twins back then… sigh

  19. When we travelled through the US with a rented mobilehome the firealarm woke me at night because it needed new batteries!! That was annoying 1st because I had no idea what that beeping was all about (we don’t have those!) and 2nd because the beeping was a few minutes apart so I could fall asleep between then just to wake up again and not knowing what is. AAArrgh!!
Oh and OF COURSE did I watch Full House!! :D

  20. Full House was my absolute favorite show when I was younger. If I catch a rerun, I get so excited!! The worst rude awakening I’ve ever had is hearing the fire alarm from the firehouse go off. It was insane!

  21. I had a rude awakening last night too! I have all my paper hanging on a wire above my desks, and Scone was being all crazy and trying to rip one down. It was 5 a.m. I think he was hungry and trying to eat paper.

    What a weirdo.

  22. i still tune into Full House every now and again! i mean how can you not right?? Those oats look AMAZING! i need to take some lessons from you girl! :)

  23. Ugh, the same exact thing happened to me a few weeks ago! And during college the person above me would leave before their alarm went off and I could hear it going off FOR HOURS through the floor. Hate that!

At least you had that delish oatmeal to comfort you.

    Loved Full House!

  24. I used to watch Full House all the time. I remember when it was part of ABC’s Friday night TGIF lineup.

  25. Trail mix-topped oats is my favorite thing, ever. Yours look gorgeous and delicious :)
