Just Call Him Doctor

Are you ready for the big news for today?

After years of hard work, Nick is finally finished!

(I had to capture his first phone call as a PhD)

At 2 pm today, he defended his dissertation and passed! Yup, he is now Dr. Nick, PhD of Muscle Physiology.

I’m so proud of him!

Nick’s dad came and picked me up from work around noon today and we went to get some lunch before going over to watch Nick’s presentation. Bob and I went to Bull & Bones for lunch, but the lighting wasn’t very good for picture taking.

Just imagine a portobello and veggie sandwich with some steamed broccoli. It was pretty good, but I wish there would have been more veggies.

We went to run a few errands before heading over, and then we sat in for the 40 minute presentation and the guest question & answer session.

After that, all of the guests were kicked out and Nick had to answer more questions from his committee for another hour!!! It was horrible waiting for him to come out and find out how everything went!

But it was all good news.

His main professor and one of his committee members told us that Nick did a great job on the presentation, had good answers to all the questions they asked, and seemed very comfortable with the information on his research.

So…it’s done! I think he’ll walk in December, but he is practically done. Just a few revisions on his dissertation and that’s it.

Needless to say, we had to go get some food after that.

Nick, his Dad, and I went over to Sal’s Italian Restaurant before his dad got back on the road.

We ordered this huge greek salad and split it between the 3 of us, plus their rustica pizza – our favorite.

It has roasted red peppers, black olives, pepperoni, and fresh basil.

I had 2 servings of salad and 1.5 slices of pizza – their pizza is cut into pretty big slices and I just couldn’t eat a full 2 tonight.

We said goodbye to Nick’s dad and came home.

Yes…we are sitting on the couch (I’m already in my pajamas at 7:30) and just having a relaxing night at home.

Whew! What a day!

I’m so glad you all liked the football post! I’m having fun putting them together :) It just fuels my obsession even more.

Which reminds me….I think there’s a game on right now…

Best part of your day? Go!

Watching Nick finish and finish strong. I am so, so proud of him and can’t wait to see what’s next for us.

  8. CONGRATULATIONS DR NICK!

    These are for you:

Nurse: ‘Doctor, Doctor the man you’ve just treated collapsed on the front step. What should I do?’
Doctor: ‘Turn him around so it looks like he was just arriving!’

A Man goes to the doctor with a banana in his right ear, an apple in his left ear and a cucumber up his nose. He asks the doctor what’s the matter with me?
The doctor says “Your not eating properly”

    A SHORT HISTORY OF MEDICINE:
“Doctor, I have a muscle ache.”
    2000 B.C. – “Here, eat this root.”
1000 B.C. – “That root is heathen, say this prayer.”
1850 A.D. – “That prayer is superstition, drink this potion.”
1940 A.D. – “That potion is snake oil, swallow this pill.”
1985 A.D. – “That pill is ineffective, take this antibiotic.”
2000 A.D. – “That antibiotic is artificial. Here, eat this root!”

    CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!
