Late to Eat, Early to Rise

Good Monday morning!

Do you ever have one of those days where things just don’t happen in the time it should?  That about sums up yesterday  :)

Nothing was wrong, the day was fine…everything just took longer than expected.

But first, lunch yesterday!

I picked up some steaks this weekend, so Nick grilled those and some zucchini while I cooked up some corn.

Why do grilled foods taste so good?

We ate lunch while watching “We Are Marshall” – good movie, but it just made me even MORE excited for football season  :)   I’m ready!

After cleaning up from lunch, Nick headed out to finish mowing the lawn and weed-eat while I worked on laundry and cleaning the house.

I’m happy to say I didn’t get sucked into any movies while cleaning yesterday, but I did make time for a few snacks.

I tried my first Key Lime Pie Larabar yesterday and loved it! I think I’ll like any with coconut in it, but this one was really good with the coconut + lime flavor.

I also had this…

…times 3 or 4? I don’t really remember how many I had. I just grabbed a few out of the freezer while passing by the fridge in between laundry + cleaning.

Then dinner.

It was good, but man it took a long time!

I roasted a bone-in turkey breast, but it took about an hour longer than we thought it would, so we didn’t eat dinner until about 9pm. That’s not super late, but it’s much later than we normally eat.

I brushed the turkey breast with some olive oil and sprinkled on some salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Then, while it was baking, I brushed it with some mango juice about every 20-30 minutes. That turned out better than I thought it would!

We also had some green beans (from our garden! first batch) and some mashed potatoes with salt, garlic, and smoked paprika.

After we ate, we finished watching Iron Chef and went to bed. Eating dinner that late just makes me sleepy!

So, back to this morning.

I was hungry when I woke up – don’t you love that feeling? That makes me look forward to breakfast even more  :)

I had planned on mixing up a cookie or muesli last night, but kind of forgot after the late dinner, so oatmeal it was!

IMG_5094

  • 1/2 cup oats, pinch salt, 1 cup water
  • 1/2 peach, chopped
  • handful blackberries + raspberries
  • cinnamon!
  • slivered almonds

I’m hoping this, plus some coffee, will get me going! I’ve got a busy day of work ahead.

What time do you normally eat dinner?

  4. I try to eat dinner no later than 6pm but lately it’s been closer to 7 as I’ve adjusted my gym and work habits. It just depends on how hungry I am and how busy I am.

I really liked We Are Marshall. It made me miss football too. I’m looking forward to my Sunday afternoons at the gym and on the couch watching the games :-)

  5. All of your meals look delicious!! Love the turkey and green beans with mashed potatoes, that’s one of the few meals my husband and I can agree on we both love it!

I love waking up hungry in the morning too! I thought I was just weird that way :)

  6. I don’t get home from work till closer to 7 or more like 8 if I go to the gym so I eat dinner between 7:30 and 8:30.

  12. We usually eat a bit after 7… The fiance has an hour commute, so by the time I pick him up from the van and we get home it’s around 6… and since I had to drive to get him, it means I’m not home to get it started earlier!

thanks for the comment! i’m pleased!

  16. Oooooooooh Bran!!! All of your meals look scrumptious!!! :D Mango & turkey does sound quite good together. Usually we eat dinner anywhere from 5:30-7pm, only on very rare occasions do we eat past 7pm. My parents were teachers, so they were always home and dinner was almost ALWAYS on the table at 5:15-5:45pm, so I’m used to eating rather ‘early’.

  17. Wow! That turkey looks so good! I would have never have put mango and turkey together but now that you mention it, it sounds great. That sweet and salty combo really works – especially on turkey.

BTW, I had frozen yogurt this weekend as well (the tart kind) and topped it with strawberries and oreo cookie crumbles. I loved the chocolate and fruit combo. So good! Your froyo with the strawberries and choc chips reminded me of mine. Great minds think alike ;)

  18. I’d like to eat earlier but by the time I get home from work, go for my run make dinner…All of the sudden in 8pm. Not ideal but I have been doing it like this for so long it feels normal to me.

  19. dinner time varies every day for me…sometimes as early as 5 and as late as 9!

i haven’t had a york peppermint patty in forever….now i really want one!

  20. I usually eat dinner around 4ish because I need to make room for a delish nighttime snack of course! College football kicks off here on Thurs! Can’t wait!

  21. mmm nothin like thanksgiving is August! that dinner looks killer, girl! :)

  22. Oh I definitely have those days!!

I usually eat between 6 and 7. I’ve been known to have a pretty late meal though.
