Fancy Sandwich

So, today I’m having something totally new AND something that I just don’t normally have anyways.

A sandwich!

I’m not sure why I don’t have sandwiches more often.

I really like them. I think I just usually have so many other leftovers in the fridge that sandwiches are often the last things I think about for lunch.

Today was different, though.

I found this great sounding sandwich idea in an old SELF magazine article last weekend and decided I needed to try it.

This sandwich was;

  • 2 slices of Alvarado St. Bakery bread, which needs to get here soon!
  • 2 slices of Applegate Farms Turkey – first time having this, and it’s awesome
  • 1 Laughing Cow wedge
  • 1/2 Tbsp fig jam
  • fresh, local greens

The combo of the cheese + jam plus the turkey is so good! I’m glad I tried it.

I also had a simple salad on the side with some more greens and the rest of the tomato I had yesterday.

Very good lunch, but light. I have a few snacks waiting for me for this afternoon  :)

What’s the BEST sandwich you’ve ever had?

  1. I don’t about the best, but there’s one I get pretty often on rosemary foccacia with chicken, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, and pesto. (there might be a few other things on there too) It’s served warm with a little side salad, and it’s amazing!

  2. i think Mediterranean style sammies are the best. the different between flavors is amazing, you get tomatoes, feta, greens. mmmm so yum. your sammy sounds amazing and looks even better!

  3. Sounds great- love the jam addition! Favorite sammy= moz& tomato – toasted! Nothing better. I hope you have a great weekend :)

  4. Right now I’m loving the Mediterranean veggie from Panera on nice Chewy Tomato Basil Bread with lots of veggies, hummus and feta.

But I had the best sandwich of my life on a British airways flight to London. Don’t remember it all but it was delightful with some sort of fruit spread with the meat and cheese and veggeis.

I don’t eat them much just because of the bread. I don’t like much bread so I don’t eat them much.

  5. wow!! love the combo.. vat a perfect sandwich to have during breakfast!! yummm!!

  6. sandwiches used to be a trigger binge food for me but now i know i “get” to eat them every day and it’s not a problem anymore. the best i’ve ever had would probably be the first grilled cheese my babysitter made me….on wonder bread with american. horrible, horrible. but delicious.

  7. Ooh that sandwich looks awesome! My favorite sandwich is a grilled garden tomato, fresh basil, and fresh mozzeralla sammie. So perfectly summer!

  8. Mmm that sandwich sounds delicious! The best sandwich I’ve ever had? Ever?! That’s a tough one. Hmm…I’m really loving Panera’s Mediterranean sandwich currently.

  9. My favorite sandwich is hummus, cucumber, tomato, sliced raw mushrooms, and spinach. I am not sure if it’s the best I ever had, but it’s really awesome though.

  10. i haven’t had a sammie in forever either! a good roasted veggie sammie with hummus or guac is probably my fave though!

i need an old-school style bowl of oatmeal like you had this morning!

  11. Best sandwich ever – a grilled chicken breast panini on olive bread, with pesto, fresh basil and provolone cheese – yum!

  12. Hey, I just found your blog and am in love! I love all your pictures, they’re so beautiful! Been back-reading and really enjoying it – I’m adding you to my blog roll right now!

  13. Yay for choosing Applegate Farms turkey! Big A+ in terms of ethical eating.

Best sam ever? Something that involves turkey, avocado, tomato, and bacon. On a nutty, grainy bread.

    Love.

  14. The sandwich combo sounds GREAT! I have had fig jam on a sandwich before and loved it! It was from a local restaurant, and had grilled chicken, baked brie, apple slices and fig jam and it was to die for. I might have to make my healthier home version soon, now that you have reminded me!

  15. oh a fancy schmancy sandwich indeed — tres gourmet miss brandi ;)

  16. when i was 17 i went with a group from my hs to france, and was taken to the best sandwich shop in the world. i know it was, because the girl who took me told me it was, and my sandwich lived up to the hype (it was a panini with chicken, and artichoke hearts and some other deliciousness)… and when I got home i told my brother (who had went on the same trip 4 years earlier) about it and when i described the place he got very amused and explained that he too had eaten the best sandwich in the world there.
mmmm…. it’s almost worth going back just for that.

  17. FIG JAM!? I must find this ASAP

  18. I actually made a almond butter and pom jelly sandwich the other day. Totally yummy! It was so easy to make and so good. I don’t know why I don’t do it more often!

  19. Mmmm I used to work next to a cafe called Yada Yada that had the best, freshest veggie wrap with hots, and avocado, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, cukes, peppers, string beans, and cheese. It was just so crunchy and yummy!
Love your fig jam, I bet that would make any sandwich!
