Beautiful Mess

What a way to start the day: good food, good company, good music.

I made myself a note yesterday afternoon to mix up some muesli for this morning and I actually did it!

muesli

Everything in this was good, but the peaches + raspberries from the market were definitely the highlights.

muesli

The base I made last night had:

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup skim
  • Honduran vanilla
  • cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • a tiny squeeze of local honey

Then this morning, I stirred in:

  • about 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 peach, chopped
  • handful raspberries + strawberries
  • 2 Tbsp of our new favorite trail mix: cranberries, almonds, dark chocolate

muesli

I love bowls of muesli because they’re not supposed to be pretty all the time, yet they still are even when they’re a mess. A beautiful mess of good ingredients.

I made Nick some last night too, so we’re sitting here eating our muesli together and listening to an Avett Brothers cd.

Off to another day of work!

What’s something you think is beautiful that normally wouldn’t be?

  1. mmm wow your bowl of muesli surely is beautiful! I need to master the art of making muesli and get all the right measurements down because whenever I make it it never seems to work out.
One thing that I find beautiful, but normally isn’t…..gawsh I have no idea.

  2. Your morning muesli is gorgeous!! I didn’t think my zucchini muffins would be beautiful, but I loved the little flecks of green and sparkly brown sugar crystals on top :)

  3. I can assure you your muesli is beautiful!

I don’t know, everything I think is beautiful is normally beautiful to me – if that makes any sense :)

  4. That muesli looks delicious, Bran!

  5. oh wow that does look really really good :) Farmer market fruit always taste the best!

Something that’s not normally considered beautiful?? That’s a really tough question! I’m going to have to take a pass and think about this. :)

  13. Love the chunks of chocolate in the bowl – yum. I think all sorts of things are unconventionall beautiful…like thunderstorms, for example…typically described as a “nasty day”….but I think they’re beautiful.

  14. Pretttttttty! Do you heat that up again? Or eat it cold?

Oh, and you can come over for salmon ANYDAY.

  15. Hey thanks for entering the VitaTop Giveaway on my blog. Good luck! :)

Hmm something that’s beautiful… hmm used tennis shoes, because you know those shoes saw and got many miles out of them and the person wearing them, probably worked really hard! :)

  16. I’ve never had museli…what does it taste like?

I think that when I’m all sweaty and gross from the gym (and Hunni too) that its beautiful. It reminds me of how hard we work and of the blessings God has given me to be able to workout.

  17. I love how pretty AND delicious that is :)

I think piles of books are beautiful…a lot of my professors have stuff lying around their offices and everyone thinks it’s messy but i love it! I think there’s a method to their madness :)

  18. That is a pretty mess! I love food like that… Soup a lot of the time is an attractive mess, and I love that about it.
And, my kitchen after cooking is a huge mess. But what it makes can be pretty beautiful…

  19. Believe it or not, I’ve never had museli before!

Spaghetti squash is one of my favs, but its REALLY hard to take good pictures of it that look appetizing!

  20. Yum, I’ll have to try that museli! I’ve only had store-bought kind, so I’m sure homemade is much much better.
My ‘Green Monsters’ usually aren’t pretty. Typically they are brown-ish and poopy lookin. They taste good though! :)
