Simple Start

Good morning!

I totally slept on the couch until about 2 am when Nick came and asked me if I was coming to bed  – oops! I just wasn’t tired when he went to bed, but I guess I fell asleep at some point and I slept good.

Neither Nick or I were in the mood for our usual Sunday breakfast – strange, right? It’s been a long time that I haven’t had eggs + bacon in some form on a Sunday, but I was looking forward to this bowl of simple and fresh foods.

oatbran

I haven’t had oatbran in a while, and I’m glad I chose it this morning.

oatbran

It was the perfect vehicle for my farmer’s market raspberries :)

oatbran

For this bowl, I used

  • 1/3 cup oatbran, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • cinnamon
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • fresh strawberries and raspberries
  • flax

Sometimes, simple is just what I need.

I’ve got coffee to take with me to church and the 2 dishes for the potluck – it should be good!

What’s your favorite simple meal?

  1. Some times the usual is just that…the usual and we need a change.

My favorite simple meal is egg beaters with a bit of cheddar, some Mrs. Dash, a tortilla (preferably corn) and some salsa. Takes 5 minutes to put together and keeps me satisfied FOR-EV-AH!

Enjoy church and your pot luck :-)

  2. My new favorite simple meal is egg in the hole or oatmeal!

  3. My favorite simple meal is just a cheese sandwich – extra sharp cheddar cheese, mustard, bread :) I love it!

  4. Lately I’ve been the same about eggs. I love them to death, but honestly my oatbran breakfast has been much more scrumptious and satisfying, and keeps me full for much longer. I think its the additional protein powder I add to it. Yumo! That’s my staple simple meal as of right now.
Your raspberries look divine in that bowl of oatbran. Happy Sunday!

  5. delicous bowl of oatmeal girlie :)

my favorite quick simple breakfast is just oatmeal, almond milk and one huge banana :)

  6. I can’t get enough of those raspberries either!! :)

  7. I found your blog recently and thought the oatbran + egg combo was interesting and wanted to try it so I went out to buy oatbran (something I’ve never tried before) but bought bran instead thinking it was the same thing . It’s not right? I tried it by itself and it wasn’t so good, actually not good at all. So now I’m stuck with plain bran and don’t know what to do with it. lol.
Anyway, I’m glad I found your blog – I really enjoy it:)

    • Hi Mia! thanks so much for stopping by :) I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything just labeled “bran”….I have wheat bran and oatbran, but I usually buy my oatbran in the breakfast cereal isle, near the grits and oatmeal.

I’m sure you could the bran to bake with! I’ve seen lots of recipes calling for wheat bran, and that’s probably close enough to use.

  8. Mmm those raspberries look delicious. I don’t buy them enough!

  9. Favorite simple meal is the same as yours: oatbran! Esp with green tea powder, and cooked in almond milk, topped with chopped roasted almonds…ooohhhh

  10. A good baked potato with seasoned salt and pepper on the skin with fat free sour cream and bacon bits! :D

  11. Those photos are really striking. What lovely colors and what a lovely and simple breakfast!

My favorite simple meal is a picnic style lunch with lots of fresh fruit, cheese and whole grain bread or crackers. I love nibbling my way through a lunch like that!
