Wake Up, Dog

It’s a miracle! I got up early and did yoga this morning. I can’t believe that 1. this happened and 2. it happened on a Monday morning! I’ve been wanting to start getting up a bit earlier to do yoga or run some days, and today it actually happened!

We’ll see if I can keep it up  :)  It was really nice to get up and just stretch out and start my day out like that before getting ready for work.

I did the 20 minute Sun Salutation 1 from yogadownload.com, and it was perfect for this morning. Lots of up dogs, down dogs, and Roxy interruptions – she likes to walk in between my hands and legs while I’m doing yoga, and usually licks my arms at some point, too. Always fun!

Breakfast is actually a little hot for me, but I forgot to mix up some muesli last night – still good, though.


These berries are from the grocery store because there weren’t any out at the market yet, but they are really good and ripe.


  • 1/2 cup, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • handful strawberries + raspberries
  • cinnamon!
  • 1/2 Tbsp each of almond butter + my homemade cashew butter


Great way to start a Monday.

Happy (late) Graduation to one of my best friends, Veronica! I’m not sure if she reads the blog, but she just graduated on Saturday!!! I’m so excited for her  :)


Do you get up early to exercise?


  1. Hoooray for early am yoga!!

    I have really been trying to get up early and run or do yoga. Some days it happens, some days it doesn’t :D I do feel better throughout the day if I get my workout in before starting the day but some days the bed or coffee drinking win :D

  2. I do my workouts as soon as I wake up. I like to get it out of the way so I don’t have to worry about it the rest of the day. It revs me up for the day and I can take a nice cold shower after.

  3. Everyday 645-745am. I have a full time job/grad school and a part time one after that. No other time!!

  4. It feels great to get up early and get a workout in. Yesterday I did a 20 min yoga download and I am def feeling the soreness in my back. This morning I have to bust out a paper before class, so I don’t know of any yoga will be going down. It feels great though!!!! Delish looking oat bowl!

    I exercise early too- when I have the most energy and also puts me in a great mood for the day!

    My solution to the ‘forgetting to make muesli’ thing is to cook my oats then stir in some yogurt…it’s amazing!

  7. NO, and I’d love to. I salute you for getting up early this AM. Seriously – you go girl. Since I got back from vaca, I keep sleeping in 30 minutes past when I should. It’s getting a bit ridiculous :)

    I get up early on a week day for a run/walk with my dog Maxie, it does help wake me up and energize me for the day and then go to the gym after work 3-4 times a week.

  9. I wish I was an early morning person! I just can never get up that early! I have to be to work by 8 am and I have a 4-year-old that is often up off and on durning the night! I need all I sleep I can get! so usually my work outs are in the evening! Your breakfast looks great!

  10. I would love to get up and workout, but getting up much earlier than 6:30 seems cruel, so I try to fit my workouts in during lunch or right after work, before I’ve gotten home. On the weekends though, I love banging out my long runs on Saturday early AM when the dew is still on the grass and the fog hasn’t lifted from the bridle path in Central Park. Ah, bliss!

  12. yay for you! i used to get up super early to go for a run – in the winter even when it was dark out. but that was back when i was in university and needed a break from all that sitting in class. i had “relative” energy, as in it was hard to get up early, but i still had energy to do a run.

    nowadays, i teach 1st grade and man, i can barely drag myself out of bed in the morning. so exercise is mainly on weekends and a day or two during the week.

    or maybe this is just a result of getting older?

  13. I totally got my run in this morning. I have not been doing it much since I am so tired in the mornings, but I really like the way it makes me feel!

    When I skated, I’d wake up at 5 am to be on the 6 am morning sessions. In the summer when I get back to AZ and can run again, I’ll probably have to wake up early and hit the pavement before it gets too hot!

  17. Good for you! I was supposed to get up at 6 to go to the gym, but I slept in instead. I so need to get back on track!
