Breakfast Treasure Hunt

I’ve been waiting to make this breakfast ever since I saw Heather have it:

Hi Roxy!  :)

That’s right – you know what’s going to happen, right?

I had a little over a tablespoon left in this jar and decided it needed to be my bowl this morning.

Plus, I needed a clean jar so I can make my own nut butter soon – what better way to get all that almond butter out of there?

oatbranab

  • 1/3 cup oatbran, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • 1 Tbsp wheatberries
  • 3 strawberries, chopped
  • palmful blueberries
  • cinnamon

Can I just say this was the best. idea. ever? I loved having almond butter all down the sides of the jar and hitting that big glob at the bottom? It was like a crunchy almond butter treasure hunt this morning. I will definitely be doing this again. It made my rainy morning a bit better  :)

Plus, no headache right now! I’m taking pills + caffeine with me to work, just in case, but I think it may be gone!

Have you tried wheatberries in oats/oatbran yet? If not, you should!

  1. Brandi,
    That’s my girl! :)

I know, I totally want to keep transferring my almond butter from jar to jar so that I can eat this every morning.

Your jar looked beautiful, and I can’t wait to see some homemade nut butter action. What is your nut of choice. Roasted pecan is my favorite lately, but almond/cashew is really good as well. I’m on a raw nut butter kick this week, but I think I like roasted better.

Hope you have a wonderful day, and thanks for the shout-out!

P.S. Never had wheatberries in my oats.

    • I don’t think I’ve met a nut I didn’t love :) I can’t decide what to make first, though!

  2. GENIUS!!! Too bad I can’t handle having real nut butters in the house at the same time I have spoons… but that is a GREAT idea! LOVE IT! Wheatberries in oats is one of my favorite things :)

  3. I’ve seen this on other blogs, but yours looks particularly amazing. I’ve never had a jar of almond butter, but this looks worth a purchase!

  4. Must try. Must try.

    Looks divine :)

  5. Haha love it! I’ve never tried wheatberries. Everyone seems to love them though.

  6. I am loving this oats in a nut butter jar idea! I can’t wait til I use up most of one of mine so I can try it :D

  7. I love this idea! I have seen it on a few blogs and it looks amazing! Definitely going to try it once I am nearing the edge of my jar…or if I just need a mega-dose of PB one morning :P

    have a great day Brandi!

  8. oh, and I can’t find wheatberries anywhere in this city :(

  9. I’m definitely trying that as soon as I get a nearly-empty peanut butter jar (which in all honesty shouldn’t take too long!) Believe it or not, I only tried the oatmeal and nut butter combo a couple of weeks ago. Now i’m hooked! Can’t believe I’ve wasted so many years just putting honey in my oatmeal! Hehe.

I’ve just read your ‘about’ page by the way and i’m so impressed. I’m still a complete beginner when it comes to running, but have signed up to do a 5k in July. The past week or so i’ve been thinking how i’ll never be able to run the whole thing – now i’m determined to. So thanks!

    • Thanks so much for the note! You’ll do great on your 5K – I never ever thought I’d be able to run 3 miles, but it just takes time and patience.

  10. I’m closing in on the end of my very first jar of almond butter and I can’t wait to try this!!

  11. The whole jar thing is such a good idea!!! I have the same AB about to go, so I think I am going to do the same! Do you cook your own wheatberries and then add them to your oat bran? I’ve never tried it, but it seems like it would add some nice chewiness to the oat bran.

    • Yes, I cooked a batch of wheatberries this weekend and then just put them in a container in the fridge to use this week. I added about a tablespoon this morning – only because I knew I wouldn’t have room for more in that jar! :)

  12. Niiiiiiice!! That jar is overflowing with deliciousness :)

  13. Wheatberries MAKE my oats! I need to cook bigger batches on weekends than I do, since I usually run out by Wednesday, haha.
