I like having breakfast waiting for me in the morning.
Especially when I crash on the couch and sleep amazingly all night long – I think that tart put me in a little sugar coma. I couldn’t even keep my eyes open to watch Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives at 10! I don’t always remember to prep stuff for breakfast at night, but it does make the mornings easier and a bit less rushed.
Last night, I mixed up a serving of my MixMyGranolamuesli plus a little extra regular oats with a cup of milk for Nick and I to have this morning. After sitting and soaking in the milk, I took it out this morning and stirred in one container of Oikos plain yogurt, then split the mix between the two of us.
I love that the milk softens the oats just enough to not feel raw anymore – they have such a great, almost fluffy texture.
I topped mine with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, slivered almonds and some cinnamon.
I thought I would be freezing eating this, but it didn’t make me as cold as having a smoothie in the morning. Maybe this and the breakfast cookie will be my go-to cold breakfasts.
Do you feel the “sugar coma” if you have something super sweet/rich?

Diners Drive-In and Dives is the greatest show! I watched it last night as I dosed off. I haven’t tried overnight oats before, mainly because my one attempt did not turn out so well. I will have to give them another try though! Happy Tuesday!
This looks super yummy! I love overnight cereals mmm – great fruit add ins!
Your breakfast looks so delicious and colorful! I love stovecooked oats, but it’s definitely nice to have breakfast all ready in the fridge when you wake up. I find it makes it easier to get up, too!
Hmm, I haven’t really noticed a “sugar coma” before. It doesn’t sound fun!
yes. i’m totally a victim to sugar comas. in fact, this christmas was when i really focused on eating whole foods as i noticed how refined sugar was putting me over the edge: hyper one moment, napping on the couch the next. i’ve found using honey in my recipes lessens it a bit. i’d be interested what other people have to say on this topic.
your breakies look so wonderful…and varied!
I definitely feel the “sugar coma” if I eat something sweet. I have a tendency to eat a little too much sweet stuff so I often have a “sugar hangover”.
I react REALLY strong to sugary foods (which is why I don’t eat them that much) so yes, I do have a sugar coma followed by a sugar hangover :(
I notice it when I haven’t been eating a lot of sugar then indulge in something sugary. It sets me up for cravings, then into a stupor/coma. Sugar can be a powerful drug when you aren’t used to it!
Overnight oats and breakfast cookies have been all I’ve been eating for breakfast these days. I too love making breakfast the night before and having it ready and waiting in the AM.
If I get sugar from natural sugars (like fruit sugar, agave, etc) I’m less likely to get the sugar rush and then inevitable hangover!
I definitely get a sugar comma if I have too much sugar! I haven’t experimented much with turbinado sugar or sucanat, but I wonder if that would help? Or maybe I should just use a little more self control when faced with sugary treats ;-)
YES! I feel the sugar coma TOTALLY!! I usually get giggly for about 20 minutes then CRASH!
That looks SO good. And yes to the sugar coma! I can’t handle sweet things like I used to!
No coma, but I feel incredibly GROUCHY the next day — and want to eat more, more, more sugar.
I can definitely feel it when I’ve had way too much sugar — the crash is the worst part.
