Born To Be Late

Gah! I turned my alarm off again! I’m not going to be late for work, but I hate being rushed in the morning.

This post is going to be quick – I gotta eat and go.

I loved my eggs yesterday and decided I needed them again, so eggs + grits

and fruit! I need colors to wake me up!

What are your tricks/strategies to getting up on time? I obviously need help  :)

I have no trouble getting up on weekends or when I have something fun to do – it’s just the normal work days that I have such a hard time getting up and out of bed.

  1. haha awww sorry you were rushed!! at least your breakfast looks gorgeous!!

i don’t have any tips- my body does it NATURALLY. I rarely even use an alarm!! unless it is REALLY early. It sucks though, because I can NEVER sleep in.

  2. Your breakfast looks delicious – I love the colors of that fruit!!

I set an extra alarm on my phone so it will ring and vibrate on the nightstand – that creates a lot of noise to wake you up! Also, put a small table lamp on a nightstand and turn it on right away. I know for me I have a much harder time falling back asleep in a well-lit room!

  3. Three alarms. Seriously. My two are set ten minutes apart (so that I can turn off the first one…makes me feel good). Then hubby has his cell phone set to go off two minutes after my second one. But, honestly, on day’s off, I always get up within thirty minutes of my set time during the week. Force of habit I guess, but it sucks not to be able to sleep in;).

  4. Unfortunately I can’t sleep in even if I wanted to. So I usually set like 3 alarms and don’t even need them hahah. I make sure that I have a pot of coffee on automatic brewing so I know I can just rush into the kitchen and my coffee will be ready. Try it!

  5. I slept late today too, and feeling rushed in the morning always makes my day a little too hectic, if you figure out a way to always get up on time let me know, I also need some serious help with that.

  6. Getting up on time? I’ve trained myself to get up at the same time day in and day out – I can’t sleep in any more! Oh and I also drink a lot of water before bed so I basically RUN out of bed! ;)

  7. Hmm. During the school year, I’m usually stressed enough about missing whatever huge thing I always seem to have going on that day. So I get out of bed in fear of missing it! Haha. Not the most relaxing start to a day.

Maybe try setting a really loud alarm from across the room, so you have to get up to turn it off? And once you’re out of bed, you might as well get up and moving :) Good luck!

  8. Multiple alarms in multiple locations? It has worked for me, but I only implement on days where I MUST get up or else something bad will happen. I love sleep way too much.

  9. I put my alarm clock far away from my reach, so I HAVE to get up to turn it off!

    :)

  10. I find that if I’m happy with my job, it’s easier to get up. But realistically, how many of us are truly happy with our jobs??? So…my current solution is to pray before falling asleep. Sounds simple and to some probably silly…but I do it and it works. Just a simple “God, please help me to wake up with plenty of time to do the things I need to do in the morning. Make my sleep restful and give me a reason to look forward to going to work so it isn’t a chore to get up and go”.

Simple, but it works every time I remember to do it.

I also have an audio file on my phone that I use as my alarm clock. It’s my nephew at age 2 singing ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’. It’s sweet and loud! LOL

  11. The only time I make it to work on time is when I get up to go to the gym in the morning. Once I get home, I spend the morning sipping coffee, maybe doing some cleaning, and still easily getting out the door by 8:15. But the only way I get up for the gym is if my boyfriend pushes me out of bed.

On mornings we don’t work out, I stay in bed til the last possible minute and then rush to get out the door and usually run 15-20 minutes late.

Also, packing breakfast helps… I eat yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, granola bars, etc. at my desk instead of trying to cram something down before I run out the door!

Oh, and last thing… a dog. Hard to oversleep when a 100-pound chocolate lab comes in and starts licking your elbows or lies on top of you!

  12. Over the years, I have used a couple of tricks to get out of bed and by far, my newest is the best. I use a sunrise clock which simulates the sun rise, it works every time.

Another trick that worked, when I did it, was to set your cell phone alarm but put it far away in another room so that you have to get up to turn it off.

  13. 3 alarms! Never fails! It does drive the bf crazy though….
