Finally On Time

First the first time in a week and a half, I actually got up on time! It helped that Roxy was laying on the end of our bed, attacking my feet through the covers anytime I moved, but whatever. At least I wasn’t rushing around this morning!

So, after all the talk about cold breakfasts yesterday and the great suggestions, what do I have this morning? A hot breakfast  :)

eggs

Last night while we were running, I kept thinking about having eggs for dinner last night. I eventually talked myself out of it because I knew I wanted them for breakfast today, too, and I didn’t want the same meal in a row.

eggs

Yum. I made 2 over easy eggs with some pepper and chile garlic sea salt and had them over some grits.

Plus 1/2 a huge orange Nick and I split this morning, plus a bite of banana before adding the rest of my half to my smoothie.

I also made a green smoothie to take with me to work – I am loving this almond milk!

smoothie

  • 1 cup Almond Breeze
  • 1/2 banana, minus a bite  :)
  • 2-3 cups spinach
  • 1/2 Tbsp flaxmeal

Have you tried almond milk? Do you use other types of nondairy milk?

I love the flavor of this almond milk, but I have never tried soy milk. It scares me a little bit although I’m not sure why  :)  I also don’t want to eat/drink too much soy since I know too much is not necessarily a good thing, and I would rather have my soy intake come from black bean burgers and those tomato basil pizza burgers!

  1. I love Almond Breeze! I get the unsweetened vanilla and chocolate flavors, since they’re only 45 calories for the whole cup. Pretty handy for smoothies, oatmeal, cereal, or just a snack. I haven’t tried baking with it yet, but plan to.

I do soy milk once in a while, but I try to stay away from too many soy products. I buy it mostly for Mr. Spice who is pretty dang lactose intolerant (I’m much milder). My favorite soy milk is a holiday flavor — Vitasoy’s Chocolate Peppermint soy milk. Keep an eye out for it around Christmas.

  2. Hempmilk only, for me :-)

  3. I have not tried almond milk yet – but after seeing you tried it and liked it, I just might give it a whirl :)

  4. I haven’t tried almond milk yet but I keep hearing rave reviews! I’ve had Silk Very Vanilla and Chocolate flavors and they’re WAY good!

Your breakfast looks insanely delicious :)

  5. ya, soy is so not good for you. the newest research suggests that it replicates thyroxin in your body, which is produced by the thyroid. for those people with a history of thyroid problems, this is bad news. my mom had difficulty with soy interacting with her thyroid in this way. also, it replicates a lot of hormones. our family doctor recommended to my sister to not give soy milk to her son as it has some sort of estrogen influence.

almond breeze i think it the best alternative i have found.

  6. I love almond milk, but you should definitely try unsweetened hempmilk!! Loooove it!!

  7. i love the taste of almond milk, but the thing about it that doesn’t stand up to regular milk and soy milk is its lack of protein :-/. but i guess if you have it with eggs or mix it with protein powder it makes up for it!

  8. I like Almond Breeze, but I love 8th Continent Vanilla Soymilk! It is 10x better in my opinion =)

  9. I haven’t tried almond milk, but I love vanilla soy milk.

Still can’t get to adding my beloved spinach to a smoothie!

Eggs look gorgeous as always! :D

  10. What a fantastic breakfast, I haven’t tried almond milk yet but your description makes me want to!

  11. I used to hate soy milk but I love the PC brand :) Its yummy!

Your pictures are to die for btw!!

  12. Yummy breakfast! I like the vanilla unsweetened almond breeze! I also really like hemp milk– it’s got a great nutty flavor. I use silk soy creamer in my morning coffee, and it’s really good.

  13. I’ve never had almond milk, but it sounds delicious! I love Silk soymilk. The vanilla is delicious for drinking and making pancakes and smoothies. Plain is great for cooking with. the French Vanilla creamer is great because you don’t need to add sugar to your coffee when you use it.

My favorite smoothie is chocolate Silk, a banana, a scoop of peanut butter, and vanilla yogurt.

I was scared to try soymilk too but it’s really good… and I don’t overdo it because I was never much of a milk drinker anyways… but I am mildly lactose intolerant, so I try to cut dairy where I can… and that will never be in the form of cheese or ice cream. Those things should not be messed with!
