Blogger Friends' Day Of Fun

Wow – where do I start? Today was so much fun! It was great to be able to spend time with Beadie and her husband and get to know them both better.

After Nick and I ate breakfast, we did a few things around the house until they got here to head out on our hiking adventure.

We stopped and got lunch at a little deli counter here, Tangent Outfitters, before heading up the mountain.

I got the “minnow” sized sandwich, but it definitely isn’t small :)  Mine had turkey, ham, spinach, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and their sundried tomato spread on this awesome wheatberry bread, plus a pickle! I ended up eating about 2/3 of the sandwich and Nick finished it off for me.

I also had a serving of pretzels on the side on the ride up the mountain.

After we ate, we headed out on our hike. I think we ended up hiking about 3 miles? I didn’t wear my HRM, but I should have! It would be interesting to see how different (if at all) my heart rate/calories burned are during hiking as opposed to running.

We went up to Mountain Lake (where Dirty Dancing was filmed!) to hike on the Homestead Trail and see the overlook at Bald Knob.

trail

The Homestead Trail is an old trail that actually takes you by an old homestead/homeplace that was on the mountain; you can still see stones that were part of the buildings’ foundations. It’s a really pretty trail – and we actually had pretty good weather today! I just noticed when we got home that my shoulders got a bit of sun while we were hiking. It was probably in the 80s most of the day, but it actually started drizzling a bit at the overlook, and that felt great.

We saw a few people while we were hiking, but it was almost as if we had the entire mountain to ourselves.

baldknob

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, this place might look familiar. Last time, though, it was covered in ice and snow!

There was no snow today, thank goodness!

I do have pictures from our very special and fun dinner tonight, but they will have to wait for their own posting tomorrow. All that hiking, sun, and eating has worn me out  :)

What is your favorite place to be outside?

I love living where we live because there are so many places to go hiking and see awesome valleys, mountains, and waterfalls. It’s hard to find a place that isn’t beautiful in its own way around here.

  1. Oh my gosh, what an awesome time!
My favorite place would be the park, or this hill in my hometown, where you can see the city.. It is gorgeous in the evening, especially when you stay up late and watch the sun rise. ;)

  2. Beautiful!!! For a minute I thought it was out west!!! I miss the mountains so much, they are my favorite place to be :)
