Italian Feast Continued!

I am so glad the work day is over!! and The Office comes on tonight!! and tomorrow is Friday and I get to wear jeans to work!!   :)

Today went by soooooo slow…I was just waiting for the work day to end.

Nick and I went to the gym after work to go running, and we didn’t have to wait for treadmills today!  I was pretty excited about that. I’m hoping the gym stays this way – it’s been so crowded the past few weeks with all the “new year’s resolutioners” and the students coming back in to town.

We ran for about 30 minutes and then headed home.

What was for dinner? It DID include more meatballs, but in a different format tonight  :)   I didn’t want pasta again, and I figured you wouldn’t want to see the same picture again!

I bought these new buns I found at the health food store and decided to try them tonight.

If you can see the label, these are only 76 calories for 1 bun!  and it was a good size, too!  Plus, I can read every ingredient AND don’t have to google anything   :)  Right, Caitlin?

I really, really liked these. I bought them in the frozen section, so I just put two in the toaster oven for us tonight to thaw/toast them and put the rest back in the freezer for later. They have this great nutty flavor from the flax and a really good texture. They were perfect for the meal tonight, and only took a few minutes to completely thaw AND get toasty!

On the menu for tonight? Meatball Subs!

I had a piece of ff swiss toasted onto my bun, then layered on a few meatballs and some of the sauce. This. was. so. good.

Add on some of those steamer bag green and yellow wax beans, and you’ve got a quick meal!

I’m probably going to have some popcorn with olive oil and salt during The Office, so I’ll go ahead and post an older picture, just for the visual.

Editing to say I passed on the popcorn. I wasn’t that hungry after dinner, so I’m just having a cup of hot chocolate   :)

Question for runners: Do you still get cramps (like in your side/rib cage/abdomen area)? I’ve only really been running for about a year, but I honestly get some type of cramp just about every time I run. It’s really frustating!

Question for everyone! What are you most proud of?

Me:  Right now, I’ve been thinking of how proud I am that I am able to run.  Even when I have bad days, it’s better than before I started running. This time last year, I couldn’t run more than 2 minutes at a time. I know that every time I run, I am getting stronger – and that is an awesome feeling.

  1. Your sub looks really yummy. I wish I could find those buns. They sound really good and I love that they are lower calorie.

    • Meg:
Thanks! I found their website ( and it looks like you can order from them! I just found a few of their items at a little local health food store, so look around! We don’t have a Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, so I usually miss a lot of neat products :)

  2. Your meatball sub looks delicious! What a fun dinner! What kind of meatballs to you buy? That bun sounds great! Hope you have a super night!

    • Strong:
Thanks! I actually got the recipe from my friend, Heather’s (, site. It’s under pasta and called Penne with Turkey Meatballs.

Thanks for your message! I haven’t checked on Runner’s World, but I should. I know I’ve seen articles on tips to try to get rid of them if you get them while running. i’m hoping there are things I could do to keep from getting them so much!

  3. Thanks for your message on my blog – greatly appreciated :) I like hearing input from others.

And I still get cramps, especially if I run after not having run for a while. I’ve been running for almost ten years now, and I still get em. I better Runner’s World has solutions? Have you checked?

  4. Meatball subs? Nice!
Hum, I’m not a big runner, but when I started I did get some pain. Now, I’ve noticed it isn’t as a problem anymore. Now, I just have to learn to push myself to keep going. Before it was because the pain that I would stop…

    • Sharon:
Thanks for the reply! I used to stop anytime I got a cramp, too :) I can keep going now, but it’s just annoying!

Hi! You should definitely look for them – they are great!

  5. I’ve never had them but I think those rolls look fantastic!

  6. I am so jealous that you get to wear jeans to work!!

Since I started running again, I do get a cramp in my side sometimes but I have learned to just run through it.

    • Beadie:

Only on “casual” Friday, but it’s still the highlight of my week :) Glad to know I’m not the only one getting cramps!

  7. Hi Bran! I just saw your buns and realized they are gluten free! :)

i will have to look for these, since you said they were good. AND low cal.

    Did they have hamburger buns???

    • Holly:
I didn’t even think to tell you about them! They make some other things (rolls, crackers, etc). I really liked the buns. I don’t remember if they had hamburger buns, but they had like dinner sized rolls? They would work for smaller burgers :) I’ll let you know if I see any!

  8. BTW, love the blog!

  9. I’m most proud of resuming my exercise routine after a horrible biking accident in which I shattered my leg and couldn’t walk for ten weeks. When I could finally start doing something physical again, getting up that first morning at 5am was one of the hardest things I ever did.

  10. Hey!
This is my first time reading your blog and I like it :) That pineapple oatmeal looked delicious!
Just wanted to offer a little advice about the cramping during running. Usually if you work on belly breathing (breathing so that your stomach inflates and deflates rather than your chest inflating/deflating). You can practice this first when laying down or sitting- just put a hand on your stomach and breath so that you can feel your hand moving. Breathing this deeply is always the way you should breath, especially when running. If I get a stitch when running, I consciously switch to belly breathing, and it usually goes away.
    Hope that helps :)

    • Hi Jane! Thanks for visiting! You should definitely try the oatmeal – it was delicious! Thanks so much for the cramping tips! I’ll have to consciously focus on my breathing the next time we’re running and see if that helps!

  11. Hey! love the blog, just so you know those buns are 228 calories. It’s 76 calories for each ounce, and each bun is 3 ounces! :) just thought i’d inform you

    • Susan: Thanks for visiting! That’s awesome what you’ve overcome – you should be proud!

Grace: Thanks for seeing that! I was actually wondering when I was looking at the picture if it was right or not. it’s a little confusing since the total bag weight is 18 oz, but even on the label, it says each 1 oz – 76 calories and there were only 6 servings in the bag? Anywho – still good buns :)

  12. actually 152 calories! i did the math wrong haha
